For some reason there are lots of Saudi tourists here in KL.

I have to disagree with you on the driving there....although it's not great and the road system is just one big spaghetti, but I never really worry about not coming home alive everyday.....it could be because my daily commute in Dubai was up and down the SZR...

I went there last year around June time to visit friends. Personally speaking i found the shops cheaper than Dubai, the traffic and the way they drive appalling ( much worse than Dubai) and the humidity stifling. Everytime i went out i felt as if i was in a sauna. It did rain alot but then the humidity kicked on. We left there and went to Singapore which was equally as humid but a much nicer place

For me, KL is more of a working, living, eating, shopping and business sort of a place. It's chaotic in mellow sort of way. It's great for a stopover, whistle stop trip but I think there are better places to spend weeks with small children. I prefer when the sky is not clear blue, the sun here is fierce when it shines through.

Great, now the boys are going to love this trip even more. Mud and rain in the jungle...

We just got back from Malaysia last week with 3 children (ages 4 years, 2 years and 7 months old). There's really not much to do in Kuala Lumpur except for the shopping. We spent a couple of days in Langkawi and Penang which we enjoyed much more. Unless you're staying in a hotel with a kid's club, they'll be pretty bored in KL.

I don't think we'll ever go back to Malaysia. I think we went in the wrong time. I didn't see one blue sky during our 12 day stay. I don't know, maybe I expected more from Malaysia, but it just wasn't one of my greatest holidays.

We fly into Malaysia to enjoy the outdoors: the fresh air and the lush greenery.... we normally stay away from the usual "touristy" activities in KL.

Alternatively - Sri Lanka, it's really close, direct flights and any number of nice beach resorts as well as tea plantations, spice farms, elephant sanctuary, turtle sanctuary etc. Beautiful country.

Agree with other posters. KL was a nice way to round off our holiday in Langkawi, but I wouldn't have wanted to spend a week there. I would go to Singapore - it's still a city but has loads of attractions, is quite small scale so easy to get around, you have Sentosa Island with all sorts of fun things for the kids, and a beach. Thailand is also a great destination if you want a beach holiday, food is great, very kid friendly and relaxing.

Just went for a week and it was a big disappointment. Never saw blue skies as the city is constantly covered with pollution smog. People are rude and impatient. Strange as they market themselves so strongly as a tourist friendly country.

The haze is from the fire burning in Sumatra....every year. Unfortunately Indonesia do not listen to the plea from their neighbors ;-)

Life in KL can be hectic with people rushing and pushing especially during peak/rush hours and SALES. Compare KL to Bangkok, don't compare KL to Phuket as life in the islands can be very.....slow But it's true, we Malaysians are not as friendly as our neighbors.

We are currently in Phuket. Thousand times better and Thais are lovely friendly people mostly. Qatar does direct flights from Doha to Phuket.

Lol! Just noticed previous poster also recommend Phuket!
If you cant afford Laguna try Sunwing beach and spa resort. One third of the price of the Laguna hotels and right next to it! We went there for six nights and my kids cried when we had to leave. They have many baby&toddler pools and kidsclub. Also kids eat free! Bargain!

I'm not too keen on KL. I find it too busy and limited stuff for kids. Asia is crowded and busy if you stay in the cities but the islands and highlands are beautiful and more relaxing. So if you want a nice relaxed holiday with things to do for kids too be prepared to travel within an Asian country of your choice. However, having said that the only great city which is very kid friendly and tons of activities for them is Singapore.

Our personal favorite is Thailand, then a short hours flight to Phuket. We stay at the Dusit Laguna and you don't have to leave the laguna if you don't feel like it. Tons of activities for the kids

Hi I was thinking of going on a family holiday in KL. I've never been to Asia and quite like the idea of just taking a direct flight somewhere and just staying there as we have 3 kids incl a baby.

Has anyone done this in KL? Is there enought to keep kids amused for a couple of weeks and yet still enjoy relaxing by the pool etc?

TIA x
