Qatar’s Old Souq Najada Is Getting a Makeover

Doha’s Souq Najada, better known as the Mobile Phone Souq, closed down almost five years ago and was demolished. While many of the shops relocated, it remained uncertain what would actually happen with the property itself.

As of now, there is a mixed-use development being constructed in that area. It will include shops, a hotel and a big car parking.

UrbaCon (UCC) are the developers who have been working on this project. Their original plan was to be done by April 2016, but that date clearly got pushed and there is still a lot of work to be done.

However, once completed, there will be a wide variety of holistic facilities, such as a book store and retail shops. The hotel is being built on what used to be Souq Ahmed bin Ali and will feature shops selling clothing and household items. It will have 126 rooms, including 23 suites, dining spaces, a gym, pool and a business centre.
