Calm and serentity prevail in the reception of Jalua Spa, Grand Hyatt, DohaAs you enter the newly opened Jaula Spa you instantly begin your journey to relaxation as you are greeted by wonderful aromas, piped music and smiling staff.  Some of the gorgeous products used during the fabulous treatments at the Jalua spaIndeed Jaula is appropriately named as it means ‘journey’ in Arabic, and I am informed that it was designed ‘to guide guests on a journey toward inner calm and beauty’.  I am excited to find some inner calm as I take a seat in the well designed waiting area, which is light and airy with understated lighting and shelves showcasing some of the many spa and aromatherapy products available to purchase.

The outside pool at the Jaula spaJaula features twelve treatment suites in total; six spacious ladies suites, four gentlemen’s suites and two couple suites.  There is also a 25 metre indoor lap pool,  two tranquility pools, inhalation rooms, a cold plunge pool, an infrared room, sauna and steam room, outdoor pools, a 400m private beach, a health club, ladies’ salon and a boutique.  All in all there’s a lot on offer at Jaula and memberships are available for singles, couples, families and companies. The spa menu is comprehensive and split into several sections starting with ‘Jaula Passages’, which are complete wellness experiences ranging from two and a half hours to a heavenly five hours.  Next on the menu are ‘Jaula Rituals’ which are indulgent two hour treatments and claim to be ‘results orientated experiences designed to satisfy and harmonize body, mind and spirit’, I can’t wait as this is one of the treatments that I am going to experience!   There are also single treatments for thirty minutes, which can be added onto a passage or a ritual, numerous facials and body treatments and waxing are listed too; indeed the spa menu is a weighty volume packed with pampering pleasures to satisfy everyone.

Spa treatment roomAfter completing a form asking about my relaxation needs (lots!), I am led to my treatment suite by my therapist Ari. The ‘Wejha’ suite is spacious and boasts two relaxation beds, its own Jacuzzi and en suite bathroom and is decked out in warm chocolate browns and creams, it feels relaxing, yet ever so opulent!  I change into a delightful fluffy robe and Ari settles me into a comfortable chair with a welcoming foot bath and a carrot and ginger juice and discusses my form.  I have chosen the ‘Black Sand Jewel’ ritual which she says will help reduce cellulite (I inwardly do a whoop for joy) and that it will last two hours (another inward whoop) after which I will feel completely relaxed as this ritual will restore ‘inner and outer beauty’, I want to cry out ‘let’s start now’, and leap out of my foot bath and onto the bed!

Tahitian black sand blended with exotic verbena essences is then vigorously massaged all over my body and it feels so refreshing and cleansing. I am asked to shower in the en suite bathroom and as I rinse the sand off my skin actually feels renewed and glowing and I’m ready for the next stage. I am now asked to lie on a large black plastic sheet and Ari slowly covers my body with a mud treatment and wraps me up then covers me with towels. I feel warm and cozy and imagine the cellulite just melting away as I lie there listening to the relaxing music and the sound of the Jacuzzi bubbling away behind me. Each room is equipped with an iPod player so that guests can select their own music to relax to during their treatment.  Ari gently massages my head whilst I ‘cook’ and I start to really relax now and feel the troubles of the day slip away.

Relaxing, slimming, rejuvenating, its your chouice at the Jaula SpaAfter another shower (I have never been so clean!) Ari commences a full body massage with sensuous smelling oil that I can feel instantly sinking into my thirsty skin.  You can request firm or lighter massage and I opt for lighter as I want to feel relaxed and not invigorated.  I am in a state of bliss, and as she finishes, every part of my being is sweet smelling and relaxed. Ari asks if I would like to use the Jacuzzi now but I decline as I want to retain the wonderful aroma and beneficial properties of the oil on my skin.

I change and float over to a seat where Korean tea and a selection of nuts and dates have been set out, a lovely conclusion to a wonderful treatment.  As I sit and sip my  tea I’m not sure what my outer beauty looks like but I definitely feel an inner glow that I hope will last until I next get a chance to visit this little part of paradise called Jaula.
