Mermaid Toast Is Officially A Thing Now

The year 2017 started with the world’s unanimous obsession with everything unicorn — hair dyes, eye makeup, nail art, highlighters, cakes, cookies, pasta — you name it. 3 months into the year and we’ve finally moved on to another mythical creature: mermaids.

That’s right; mermaid toast is officially the new Instagram food trend that — as we speak, is clogging your social feeds.

It all started when Florida-based food stylist and author, Adeline Waugh decided to experiment with her famous unicorn trend. Little did she know that her creativity will soon turn into an Instagram-worthy trend.

So what’s mermaid toast?

It’s basically an edible mix of Adeline’s homemade almond milk cream cheese (any cream cheese would do the job too) and blue green algae powder for the aquatic colours. A good sprinkle of edible golden flake adds the magical touch to an otherwise ordinary toast.

Pretty to look at and yummy to eat, these mermaid toasts are getting conflicting reactions. Some Instagram user are calling it ‘silly’ and saying ‘who has time for that’; others are simply having some fun with colours and sprinkles.

Should you try it?

Why not? In fact, go all out and create your own mermaid colours, add your own toppings and have some fun with your snack.

You can totally replace cream cheese with yogurt for a healthier option.

A mix of unicorn and mermaid toast!
