Singapore Passport The Most Powerful Passport In The World

For the first time in history an Asian country holds the most powerful passport in the world! According to the latest Passport Index, Singapore has taken the number one spot and officially holds the most powerful passport in the world.

The number one spot was shared between Singapore and Germany but Paraguay changed all of that. The country recently decided to remove visa requirements for Asian city-state passport holders and in the process caused Singapore to rise to first place.

The Passport Index is an initiative from Arton Capotal, an international residence and citizenship advisory firm. They assign a “visa-free score” to passports based on the number of countries specific passport holders can visit visa-free or with a visa on arrival.

193 United Nations member countries and six territories, namely ROC Taiwan, Macao (SAR China), Hong Kong (SAR China), Kosovo, Palestinian Territory and the Vatican are all taken into consideration for the “visa-free score.”

The higher the score, the more powerful the passport. Singapore passport holders can visit 159 countries without having to struggle with applying for a visa beforehand. Germany came in second place with a score of 158.

South Korea, Japan, Malaysia and Hong Kong’s passports also managed to reach the Top 20 list respectively coming in at fourth, sixth, sixteenth and nineteenth place.
