Merlion Park in Singapore

Merlion Park SingaporeMerlion Park is located at One Fullerton, Singapore near the Central Business District (CBD) area of Singapore. This park is a popular tourist attraction and you will see countless people with their cameras at the park at any time of day or night. In fact, it becomes impossible to get your picture taken next to the Merlion because of all the tourist groups who bunch up there together for photographs.

The Merlion is a mythical creature with a body of a fish and the head of a lion – the Merlion has also become the Mascot of Singapore. The body of the fish represents Singapore’s heritage, the fact that it was a fishing village. The head of the lion represents Singapore’s original name, ‘Singapura’, meaning ‘lion city’.

There are two structures of the Merlion located at the park with one standing at 8.6 metres which is the original Merlion statue and a 2-metre tall Merlion cub located just behind the original statue.

The Merlion Park is open 24 hours a day and entrance is free. It is a great place to take kids and visitors as it is a historical part of the Singapore culture and oozes with local flavour.
