Hi everyone,

I'm enquiringly on behalf of hubby. We are presently based in UK. Hubby was looking for job opportunities in Dubai or Oman when Bahrain suddenly popped up with a possible opening. As we were more focused on Oman and Dubai, and knew the locations fairly well, it was easy to know how much he would like for his package, However, Bahrain is totally a new territory that we frankly have no clue about. So far, read up on what it is like to live there. And while there are a few websites on standard of living cost, we are a bit concern of getting it wrong. It doesn't help when the Dirham goes in the thousands, and the BD is literally single digits amounts LOL!!! It is quite disconcerting to see everything is averaging between BD 1-2, and eating out is average BD 30. It is almost like the UK.

Except the petrol LOL!! I read in a different forum, a full tank in Bahrain is BD 5! Unlike in UK where a full tank is GDP80!

If hubby is looking at the possible potential 40k per month dirham all inclusive in Dubai, what will be the equivalent in Bahrain? He is happy to allow the Bahrain company to make an offer but we would prefer to know if we have got our numbers correct.

He will be there on his own for the first year as our son is due for his GCSEs in 2016, of which we will be possibly joining hubby in Bahrain the year after.

So far, based on what we have read off the internet, the budget framework for basics is based on a single person is apartment rental will be about BD 400-700 (will want him to stay somewhere nice since he will be there alone without his family), car rental BD 300, food BD 300 (home cooking but can see he most likely be eating out quite often, the Brit Club sounds lovely, I can so see him there often with a beer and the sports tv) Internet and phone 150, utilities 120. Medical 150.

What do you think? Is there anything else we need to think about?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Best regards
Sharon.

Don't forget to factor in flights home. Don't know re rent, utilities or medicals. Food looks a little low, car seems about right for KSA amounts, and reckon it will be similar over the bridge. And, yes. Petrol is cheeper than coffee.
