After earning his masters degree, Dr. Elsharkawy has previously worked with the Police Authority Hospitals in Egypt as both a radiology registrar and radiology specialist. He has also worked in King Abdul Aziz Specialist Hospitals in Saudi Arabia as a specialist radiologist.
