Curriculum at SISD
SISD offers the full continuum International Baccalaureate (IB) programme (PYP, MYP, Diploma Programme and Careers-related Programme).
The personalised STEAM programme for PreKG-Grade 5 is a future-focused and integrated approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student enquiry, dialogue and critical thinking. The programme is project-based, building on the foundations of the International Baccalaureate framework and allows students wider breadth of knowledge into STEAM subjects through a trans-disciplinary approach.
It is designed as a continuum across Pre-KG to Grade 5 allowing students to build their knowledge and skills from personalised starting points. Students focus on the design process, design thinking and enhance their computational thinking. For each grade level, students work complete STEAM projects to demonstrate their learning and apply their skills.
In Grades 6-8 students are to attend preparatory classes. These years in our bilingual hybrid classes (IB combined with Swiss Baccalaureate) lay the foundation for a successful Swiss Baccalaureate education.
Upon completion of this phase, a student can be admitted to the Swiss Baccalaureate section or continue with the IB Middle Years Programme. The final decision to join the Swiss Baccalaureate section is taken by the end of Grade 8 and is subject to sufficient numbers of students selecting and being admitted to this academically demanding pathway.
The curriculum of this generalist qualification covers a broad range of subjects including Sciences, Humanities, Arts, Maths and Languages, one specialist option (starting Grade 9) and one supplementary option (starting Grade 10).
The boarding houses accept students from Grade 6 -12. The boarding school caters to students from the UAE as well as international students, with weekly and full boarding options at their disposal. The weekly boarding option enables students from Dubai to avoid lengthy commutes. At the same time, the school will provide student visas, allowing parents to ensure a stable school progression despite relocation.
After school hours is another benefit of being a boarding student, where the students can participate in numerous after school activities, which are designed to simulate and challenge. These include sporting, arts and academic pursuits. Boarders will be encouraged to follow their personal interests and try new things. For example horse riding, go-karting, golf, camping trips and wadi adventures.
Bilingual Programme at SISD
The bilingual programme at SISD is generally suited for learners whose mother tongue is French, German or English; however, we will admit children who do not speak any of these languages up to KG1.
The Early Years Programme has been carefully designed to encourage enquiry-based learning for children aged between 3 and 5. All students will acquire some oral competency in French or German plus Arabic.
From Grade 3 onwards, students in the bilingual sections will be immersed in a progressive environment where they will be taught one week either in French or German and one week in English.
Students in these sections will be able to qualify for the IB Bilingual Diploma during their final years at the school. Arabic and Islamic Studies will be taught according to KHDA requirements.
We believe in having high standards; encouraging our students to stretch themselves to achieve success, unlocking talents and discovering new strengths. Our programme aims at developing & inquiring, knowledgeable communicators and thinkers as well as caring and principled young people.
We recognize that whilst academic success is important, human values such as confidence, enthusiasm and empathy are also required to be successful.
