If you like them who cares what other people think? If your feet need the support, get them, those flip flops really don't give proper support.
FIT flops have amazing support.
Hi Irooni, I live in flip flops, but had started to get some heel pain. So I tried the birkenstocks as they have that bit more heel, and was surprised how comfy they are... but I do still wear flip flops too but if walking alot wea the Birkenstocks... Shamefully or not I don't really mind what I look like so long as I am comfortable...

Fit flops aren't the prettiest around the block either lol.
By the way welcome back Irooni, long time no see :)
I have huge wide feet, usa size 12ww, getting shoes is a nightmare even from the likes of Zappos so when I do get nice shoes I ration my wear of them. I have about 6 pairs of birkenstocks in various colours and designs to wear instead of my 'good shoes' and they look nice under linen trousers and jeans, but personally I'd never wear them with a dress or skirt because of how big they can look in a usa size 12. My daughter has size 9 usa and she can wear them with a skirt though only certain styles. Comfort wise they are only comfortable if you get the correct size and if in doubt I would always go for the smaller size, if they are too big - boy do they hurt the arch of your foot.
Do they actually look ugly? No I don't think they do if you are very careful of how you put the rest of your outfit together when you wear them.
Nasty-looking but feel amazing!
I've been wearing them since you could only get them in a couple of designs (unisex) and colors. Now they make them in all shapes and colors to make them more appealing (not very successful ;)
I personally have unattractive feet so used to wear them with socks! Haha! Doesn't help my cause much.

Nasty. If your going to be wearing ugly shoes at least make sure your feet are in good condition. Saw a lady with terrible toenail fungus+birkenstocks! Double gross.
Who cares what they look like! Walking in comfort is much more important.
Emlsre, how do they compare to fit flops?

I got a pair because i thought they looked nice on everyone else's feet but can't decide about them on me. They feel like big flippers. Not dainty. not being very helpful!
Have to echo what oopsie said. They're not pretty but if I know I'll be on my feet all day, Birks are my footwear of choice. My DH wears them too so he can't complain :)
They look horrible (according to dh) but I live in them all day. They provide very good support for your feet (compared to flip flops that is). You do have to get used to them, takes a couple of days. If I need a change I wear Naturalizers. Somewhat more elegant.
