Absolutely wear what you feel comfortable in, my first preganancy was horrible and you wouldn't have caught me dead in a bikini or even partically dressed in the sun haha my second was totally different I had a great neat little bump and wore a bikini and felt good about it. Later in pregnancy its more about feeling comfortable so maybe an all in one would give your belly support or you might be luckly and not need any :) Do what you feel good about :) In really interested to see the comments about not wanting to see a bump in all its glory, I had no idea people were put off by it, I mean there are surely much worse things to be seen on the beach ;) lol edited by JShepherd on 11/04/2011 Oh, HALLELUIAH! My first pregnancy I was the size of a small condo and I hated, hated, hated the way I looked. I am hoping this time round I'm going to have one of those neat little bumps and reading your post gives me hope! Hurrah! I really don't get what's so distasteful about a bump. I honestly don't. To me, distasteful is butt cheeks hanging out the bottom of shorts; thongs; budgie smugglers; that kind of thing. Not the most natural thing in the world. A - completely agree with you. I don't understand what's distasteful about it either. Being comfortable in your skin when pregnant and dressing appropriately to the occasion does not equal being an exhibitionist. B - SO EXCITED FOR YOU and Mr Cat!! Congratulations lovely lady!! xxx

Er, yes. Totally by accident, which is ironic considering how long it took us to have Will! :D ETA: And the next best thing to immaculate conception, which is even funnier. I'm sure my face when I saw the test was a picture. edited by DubaiCat on 11/04/2011

Dubaicat - honestly my no.2 was an unexpected surprize as I felt so terrible the first time around, I vowed not to do it again ;) I was really ill, hated how I felt, looked ect, I was quite happy to stick with just my DD. So fingers crossed for you :) I'm really surprized by the stir the pregnant belly is causing, I never even thought about it, after all its hard enough to feel good about your body at the best of times, so if you feel good and look good when your pregnant, crikey why not! and it is the beach we are talking about after all.

I wore a bikini at 5 months pregnant and I had a big bump but it was mainly coz I couldn't be asked to look for a tankini in a heat of particularly uncomfortable August back home (no a/c either)! I think you should go to a shop that have both types available and try them on. Whichever makes you feel beautiful is the one to go for!

i think the very fact that you need to ask on here must mean that you have reservations otherwise you would just get on with it !! Personally it wouldn't bother me to see bumps in bikinis so if you feel comfortable then don't let anyone put you off but if you're going to be worrying about how you look all the time then you won't enjoy yourself so maybe a nice floaty top or something would be easier....

http://www.google.com/images?q=bathing+suits+for+pregnancy&rls=com.microsoft:en-ca:IE-SearchBox&oe=UTF-8&rlz=1I7ACAW_enAU337&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1345&bih=544 here. A whole lot of bathing suits. I have to agree that the covered ones might look a better, more in late pregnancy though than very early. I dont think anyone is saying a pregnant belly is not beautiful, just that it need not necessarily be put on display naked ;)

I think a bump looks much more cute in well draped maternity wear rather than just exposed. I dont know why but its a private thing to be shared and enjoyed between the parents, and not put on show for the world. JMHO. so its a no for me, sorry! PS just read what Crystil said, about the mystery of it, really captures what I'm trying to say.

Guess it all depends on whether wearing it would get you into trouble or unwanted attention. If nobody minds and you don't mind, then by all means wear what you like. Otherwise it probably would not worth the trouble.

There's nothing more beautiful than a woman who is pregnant and glowing with health but please dress your bump with dignity. I'm not in favour of bare pregnant bellies on show.

Sorry, I don't think it looks quite right either but it's up to you. I feel it's something very personal and I didn't and actually never do, want my whole body on show for anyone and everyone to see. I don't like really tight maternity wear ( or maybe it's not maternity wear otherwise it would not tight) either. It sometimes feels like "look at me, I'm pregnant" and I think you're not the only one who has ever been pregnant. I think pregnancy is wonderful but find a draped bump more graceful and elegant and feel that some aspects of our lives are better kept reserved. Agree with you. When I see tee shirts never getting past a certain point, I can't help wonder if people can't afford a nice top or wonder how being an exhibitionist can make one feel good. There are times when the "mystery" is much more attractive than the unattractive "in your face" look. Catherine Zeta Jones is a fine example of looking elegant, and clearly feeling elegant, and enjoying her pregnancy. Angelia Jolie also was conservative and elegant in her dress when pregnant - and this is a woman who loves "shock".

I am not so sure, my husband feels it may not look Ok. .........should I buy a tankini or something like that? Maybe your husband is uncomfortable with it and was being as nice as possible in what he said. If you decide to wear a bikini, you may want to bring along a one piece or a tankini top in case he's not comfortable with the binkini. It's a vacation and you should both enjoy it, even if it means you don't wear the bikini and wear something that would make him comfortable. Then again, once he sees you in it, he may be OK with it. edited by Crystil on 11/04/2011

I love the shape of pregnant women, but there are bumps and bumps. I always felt more comfortable wearing a maternity tankini, rather than have the vast expanse of flesh that was my tummy on show

I personally didn't wear a bikini when I was pregnant I'm not really a fan of seeing a pregnant belly either! I know it's natural and you should be proud etc. but I don't want to see it. Mind you, I keep my head down at the beach or pool anyway as there are lot's of bodies that shouldn't wear a bikini, haha... But, each to their own, if you feel okay, no matter what you look like and you aren't showing any bits that are offensive by law, then who am I to judge...? Unless you're parading about around the edge of the pool just so people can see you, wearing a white see-thru thong bikini, white stilleto high heels and have full make up on and look like you've just stepped out of the salon, in which case I shall probably point and giggle, hoping someone pushes you in...

I say go with what you're comfortable with. I wasn't going to buy a new one piece just to go swimming while pregnant. I instead bought a swim tank top because I'm self conscious.

I did it.. and I think it's ok... better than the fat and not pregnant ones out there who think they look great!! :\: I cannot compare fat with pregnant. you serious? Yes! a pregnant lady does not look fat and a fat lady does not look pregnant. anyway, we shall have to disagree on this one, and that is fine with me, how boring would this board be if we all agreeed! I hope the OP sorts out her bikini/tankini issues. As SueB said, just make sure it fits!

I've never been to Cyprus so have no idea if there'd be any cultural sensibilities to consider. None. The women can go topless and the men wear banana hammocks (my FIL does :\: ). edited by gleekfamily on 11/04/2011 edited by gleekfamily on 11/04/2011
