What happens if you get caught?

What happens if you get caught? Depends on if you kill somebody. Blood money Driving without insurance is serious, so if you get caught, you will probably go the traffic court. If you actually have an accident while uninsured, then as well as whatever penalty the court imposes, you will have your passport confiscated until you have paid for the repairs. If you can't afford it, then you'll go to jail. The consequences of injuring someone (or worse) while uninsured don't bear thinking about.

Yes I knew this day was approaching but was hoping to have exchanged the car with the new owner by now. The bank has delayed the letter due to an admin problem on their side. I've renewed the car insurance today and the insurance company have said they would refund whenever i transfer the car.

The police cars with the big white boxes on the top of them can read all license plates which is connected to an in car computer that tells them if the car is upto date with its registration and insurance, just like in the UK. That's why they're often seen sitting at the side of the road. They're checking your details are upto date. That's how I got caught a while back with expired registration. DH was organising, but got delayed doing for a few days and it expired. I got pulled, car impounded for a week and 600AED fine. Personally, ask the insurance co for 24 hr cover, not worth the risk. I got stopped 2 weeks ago and my registration was expired. I got a 200AED fine but my car was not impounded

Next time go with RSA or AXA. I read it as she was thinking of extending the insurance for 5 days rather than thad been rying to contact them for 5 days... ;) Although I could be wrong, in which case, definitely the wrong insurance company to be covered by! oooops = yes! BUT the OP has been posting on this for several days now - she knew this day was coming!

Just to put another slant on it - how would you feel if you were driving today and were in a bump where the other person was "just driving two minutes down the road to transfer the car". S*d's law says this short time is when an accident will happen, or a police car will read your plate... Also, what happens if you even have a no-injury bump, who will pay to repair your car? the person buying it won't want it buy it banged up and you could be hugely out of pocket. Definitely worth the insurance extension. Just not worth it in my humble opinion to even consider it. I actually got hit by someone who had no insurance (only a fender bender) but the police took the guys passport and family book and wouldn't give back till he had fixed my car.

not worth..... if you have an accident you would be liable for blood money - the insurance can be refunded.

it was because I got caught driving it without the insurance been processed. Hubby had the paperwork on his desk and had not finished it. Not sure about your situation so I cant comment. Perhaps it would be ok as long as it was transferred over without you driving it?

I was not planning on driving it after tomorrow, it will just sit in the car park of my building until the transfer day when I will drive it 2 minutes from where i live to the rta centre.

Was this because you got caught? I am selling my car and my bank letter has not come through yet. It may come tomorrow in which case I am fine. My insurance runs out on 15th. What with rta do if I turn up to transfer it over and my insurance has run out?

There are 2 ways to get caught. One is to be picked up by the police and the second is to have a ghastly accident, and that will wake you up, pretty fast!

I have recently done this, and we got a 600aed fine and our car was impounded for a week. Dont do it if you can avoid it.
