Our son is coming on Mondays flight. We are having a heck of a time getting his visa as he is flying Cat C but both tickets says standby. We cant seem to make the visa people understand that these are confirmed tickets and for some reason we can see the tickets online but they cannot and keep telling us to make sure we have confimed tickets grrrrrrrr. Anyone else have this problem and what did you do?

I pretty much only book Cat C now when I fly to Oz (can't be bothered with the standby hassle) when you get the e-ticket in your co email, if you scroll down to the flight info on it, left hand side next to the flight number where it usualyl says 'confirmed' if it says 'standby' then it's a waitlisted ticket. As far as I can remember this happens when there's no seats in the Cat C/D column, OR if the check box in TRIPS was marked as 'waitlist' when you sent the request (you can do this as an option for some reason- I guess when booking backup flights for a Cat A?) I had this ocne when I thought there was space on the flight but since TRIPS is only updated once a day at midnight it showed seats when there was not- so when the ticket got processed it was a waitlist. I don't think I've explained very well but hopefully you get what I mean! It is quite rare for that to happen though, but I do know that JFK, SEA and YYZ are usually all overbooked so would probably be less rare on those flights, esp when booking close to the date of departure. If you are ever unsure I've found calling ST helps since they have a separate line for confirmed bookings. Much easier than trying to call for a Cat A ticket :)

we had to go to Al Ramool in the Freight building, They were very nice and helpful. Thanks for that info SkyKitty, I didnt know that. Will make sure I look next time ;)..mind you, we do get the notice from ST if the Cat C was granted or denied so I thought if it was granted it was firm?

Glad you sorted it, was a bit concerned it may have been a waitlisted Cat C... that's the only time I've ever seen 'standby' written on mine... when there was a '0' under the Cat C/Cat D/Spec Offer column it means they won't immediately process a Cat C and you go on the waitlist... always worth checking, don't want to get sent away... As I understood it, Canadians are having a harder time witht he visas lately, did you go to the visa services at HQ or did you have to go to the office at the freight building? (Just behind hq?)

so some info :).....if this ever happens to you, you immediately go back down to EK visa office and tell them :D...Be nice and smiley and polite :)....D is picking up the visa this afternoon :)..we were in there all of 15 min :).....whew. and yes, you can get a visa with standby. We thought that was odd considering a good majority of EK staff families fly standby....so no worries there. So for future, (I now will always remember this) if you get emails from the visa office, just go down and sort it :) You can get a visa very quickly if needed.

So they wont issue a visa with ID90 tickets?? No,You need ID50/Cat C ticket for a visa to be issued. I would go to Staff Travel to have this sorted out if I were you before your son gets denied boarding due to no visa.

they wrote and asked if my husband had applied on line and if so the needed the web number. I thold them he did not as hae was an employee and had to go directly to VFS to apply so there was no web number. they had all the information, ticket copies and anything else they needed. It was also checked before it was sent off so I am not exactly sure what is going on but...at least they are trying...if I have to go down there and start crying and wailing, I absolutely will if it gets me what I need lol....

Husband had to redo another ticket because the tickets were separate. So, he redid and I asked why the new tickets said standby...he said the ticket in trips was Cat C....honestly..I am confused and apparently so are the visa people. Poor kid will be standing at passport control not being able to get in :(...nightmare. Rickadon, we did it from here. It was actually easy except for this snafoo :(.... D is flying so I will check trips to see what is happening. Thanks ladies :)

Hi SueB My sister is coming in March on a CatC so I just double checked it and it doesn't say Standby on hers either. Maybe as Angela suggests recheck what was booked. I know very annoying! On another note are we able to sort out the visas for them here or does she have to do it in Canada? What a headache this has become! Good luck

I've never had a cat c ticket that says standby on it it always says confirmed under the flight number. Maybe check on trips the status of your booking.
