Sorry, I know it's been done before - but i need to face up to the fact that I will be returning to work soon and I need to arrange for my ill one. Although I've found a good nanny/helper - I'm quite nervous about leaving the lo at home and so far away from me all day so I'm strongly considering daycare at hummingbird as I work in DIFC as I work there and can pop in regularly. Any thoughts on hummingbird and daycare in general for a 7mnth old? On the one had I feel like socially it will be great for him but am nervous of the germs etc etc. - thoughts?

Thanks so much! Did any of you mummy's witness increased sickness when you started daycare? All children who attend nursery get more sickly than children who dont. Its just one of those things you have to deal with. Kids infect each other in the nursery environment. Some nurseries do encourage regular handwashing to decrease the amount of illness though and spreading of germs etc.

Thank you ladies that's very comforting to hear. I plan to keep lo at hummingbird (assuming all is well) til he s of nursery age and then hope to move him elsewhere then. Have been hearing negative comments about daycare at an early age so always comforting to hear success stories! From a selfish point of you - it's great to have the little one so close to me during the day! Don't take any notice of negative comments. If you're referring to Stece Biddulph's book (Raising Babies), it's worth noting that it's based on *very* little proper research. It's commonplace for children in continental Europe and Scandinavia to attend daycare from an early age and those countries are often held up as examples in terms of family-friendly govt policies. Oh and it's not selfish to want to be near your baby - he/she will benefit from having you nearby, and in any case it's much better to be in a nursery than with a maid at home.

my little went there at 6 months - 13 months and loved it. Maritess seemed to be her main carer and was fab. All the ladies are lovely. I wouldn't have kept my LO there any longer at the toddler stage as doesn't seem big enough really but for young babies and mums working close by its perfect. I popped in lots to see DD playing happily. I believe from Feb 2013 the older kids are moving out next door to limestone house which means the difc unit will be even more lovely for the babies as the noise and mayhem of the older kids was the only thing I didn't like as much (even though babies are in separate bit).

Both my girls went to day care / nursery from an early age, one at 6 weeks and the other at 5 months and lived to tell the tale! The only comment I can make about this nursery though is based on my observation (I work in DIFC on the other side of the square from it)...I often see the staff out and about with the kids. I have always been struck by how nicely the staff interact with the kids.

Hi I had my dd1 at Hummingbird from age 2yrs 4 months to 3 yrs 8 months. I know that she wasn't a baby but as it is open plan I often saw them care for babies and they did a great job. It's a v homely place and ideal for mums working in DIFC. Had it been open when dd was still a baby I would have put dd1 there. ETA: Just remembered that when dd2 was 7 months old I put her in there for one morning as I needed emergency childcare. They were vg with her. The lady who looked after her was Maritess - not sure if she is still there, but apparently she was a nanny for the Maktoums for a long time. edited by Persepolis on 31/12/2012

Just wanted to add that Hummingbird would serve your purposes beautifully at this point in time in my opinion. Baby section is great! The ladies there are lovely! And you get a day report on what went on on that day (eating, pooing, crying, activities...). You can not ask for more than that I think :) edited by amleite on 31/12/2012

Hi mols, I had DD there from age of 8 months to 18 months and DS from 3 months to 5 months. They were fine at the baby section DD started getting sick a lot when she moved to toddler section around 13 months. But I think that is what happens to any nursery really. I like Hummingbird for the convenience when they are little. I am glad to have moved DD on to a proper nursery after 18 months mark though. (FOr this you need to put name down on wait lists already btw). It is just that Hummingbird seems more a day care facility for older age group. I feel she was much better with regular set of class mates.
