Much to my dismay lloyds is being bought by H**C. Lloyds has always been excellent. I have heard nothing but bad things about H**C - many people having thousands disappear out of their accounts etc. I would love to hear from people- has it improved at H**C or should we move. What banks are people happy with ?- security of our money is our biggest concern. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

We are definitely the exception to the rule. Been with H..C for close to 10 years and not one hiccup.

We are definitely the exception to the rule. Been with H..C for close to 10 years and not one hiccup. we've had a couple of minor hiccups but nothing huge - but then we don't do a lot with our account (no foreign transfers etc for example) - I just spend the money and DH moans lol

Have a lot of dealings with H..C over a range of countries and always receive good service. No complaints here!

We've just opened an account with H**C here in the UK and they also advised us re offshore and Dubai accounts. I couldn't fault them and according to hubby they have also been very helpful when he called into the Bur Dubai branch

I was with HS.C and still have my account open with them, but moved from having my salary paid in and credit card over to Barclays, TBH they are all as bad as each other!

glad you started this thread Sue was wondering the same thing...... I am disappointed too as have all our accounts with Lloyds and we despise HS*C and had many bad experiences with them in the UK so would never back with them on principle! I will miss going into the branch at Safa Park, so convenient for us and it seems all the other banks only have counter service in either Jebel Ali or Deira. What feedback on Emirates NBD here? or any other recommendations?.......

Is HSBC a swear word now, then? We've been with them both in Oman and here and haven't had any real concerns. Not outstanding, but haven't given us any headaches either. Any issues we've had have always been resolved.

About time Lloyds are closing! We had nothing but trouble with them, and ended up switching back to Emirates NBD who are fine. We have accts with Lloyds and HSBC *offshore* banks (based in Isle of Man and Channel Islands) are fine in terms of service but their local equivalents are totally different entities. Fyi... HSBC here is locally owned franchise of the global brand. I have not banked with them in Dubai so can't offer any feedback on them. I would recommend Emirates NBD for a basic current account here. They have branches and ATMs just about everywhere and service levels are perfectly acceptable.

I can second Emirates NBD. Though non of the local banks may live up to the standard you were used to in your home country, ENBD's ATM and branch availability is very convenient.

Ha ha Sandy Dogg- no, H**C is not a swear word (although some would beg to differ... )- just gotta be careful of the slander thing . Thanks for all of your replies. It is only the Dubai Lloyds branches that are being sold (they will keep a Lloyds offshore branch somewhere in Dubai- to be determined). Mostly I am concerned about safety- money not disappearing from our account, also ability to online bank safely (and transfer money offshore online) and also Lloyds was good at calling when our Visa card was being used for big purchases etc to make sure it hadnt been stolen. Anyone else vote for Emirates NBD? Anyone had money disappear out of their account with Emirates NBD ? (a problem with H**C for a number of people I know over the last 3 years). It would be a lot easier just to stay with H**C as LLoyds will take care of the transition, but it just seems to have such a bad rep.

H**C have just introduced a secure key here in UAE, which means a pin number is randomly generated for each online transaction involving movement of money...I have never had any problems with them but our branch is at JAFZA, but then I have fobs for all accounts now, and I need a new keyring (maybe they should produce a promo one to hold all the fobs!!)

It's a PITA! They sent DH one key for our local accounts and one for our offshore accounts, but not one to me. DH and I spend most of our time in different countries so we need to work out which one of us is most likely to need it. I can get my own securekey for our local accounts but I can't see all the accounts from my own log-in *sigh*

So if you want to access your accounts online and your offshore accounts on line you have to input this pin from the fob? Or is it just if you are going to do a wire transfer? Sounds hectic. We are going to keep our LLoyds offshore accounts- does anyone know if you can do online banking with Emirates NBD?(and set up standing orders for transferring of salary to LLoyds offshore from there?). H**C is sounding worse by the minute.

Never had a prob with HSBC here, although we do have offshore and UK accounts, although (again) I understand they have no relationship. Having said that we never go inside the bank, just take money from the ATM, do all transfers online. worst part was writing the 36 chqs back in the early days. Regarding the number pads, we already have 9!!!! I have labeled them on the back with permananent marker and it works ok for us.

Had an account with HSBC in Vancouver, never ever again! Good riddance. Try ENBD.
