This site drives me crazy. Why assume that they go back for benefits etc! What about missing family? Ill relative? Just don't like Dubai(maybe because so many people are so far up there own a**es because they can afford a maid etc so think they are the bees knees!!!)????
We are considering going back for family reasons. Have never had benefits and would never ask for them!!
I though this site was to help others not slate them!!!!
[b'>I guess non of you are from the Uk!!![/b'>
You guessed wrong.
Yes, I'm sure a lot of people do go back for family reasons but this thread has been discussing financial reasons so far. If you want to throw family into the mix as a reason, go ahead - it's a very valid reason, but don't get your drawers in a twist because it's not been mentioned until now. Benefits/financial security has been cited as [b'>A[/b'> reason, no-one's saying it's the only reason.
Lol!!!!!!! People chose to slate rather than give valid reasons!!!! (sorry to the very few that didn't) So i have valid reason to get annoyed!
That article is not saying much really, the reasons listed are not specific to Dubai or the UK and some are the reasons why I left the UK to go home 4 years ago... specially the lack of seasons (missing the snow and the real summers)! But after a while I felt restless so here I am in Dubai.

Let's hope the low lifes go, it will make life a lot easier .
by Dubai's very nature, there aren't actually any "low lifes"... there are morally questionable, but not the low-life underclass that the DM loves to harp on about.
I think, out of all the places in the world, Dubai is the one whose outward image is the most radically different from reality... so a lot of people come along believing the [hyperactive'> PR and then get the Mother of all reality checks.
Add to that the fact that the feather-bed packages are dead and gone (pretty much) and what's left looks great on paper when you're sitting in the UK, paying tax and taking the NHS and free schooling for granted, but once you come out, all those "perks" add up and eat away all your tax-free-ness.
And how much help will a British family get here if the sole earner loses his job?
Returning to the UK may be far from ideal, but with little money and no income it's the lesser of two evils.

I agree Sanddy ......
Being devils advocate I could list a zillion reasons for [i'>staying [/i'> here having just spent 2 weeks back in the UK for the obligatory family visit ..... but DH & I are both lucky enough to be debt free and in reasonably well paid jobs here, which is more than we could hope for back home.

'Helped if it all goes t*ts up here'?????? 50 quid a week on the dole does not go very far in a tax paying society.......and with the recession, I imagine those going home and who have not been resident for quite some time will reduce their 'benefits' even further.....
We don't need her to tell us why! Because they miss the rain. Because its too expensive to air condition their houses in Dubai. Because they go to jail if they can't pay for their air conditioning in Dubai. Anyone else have any ideas?
I think it's just a numbers issue. It's not really saying that most UK expats who come to Dubai would rather go home, it's more that Dubai has more expats from the UK than many of the other countries. For English speaking expats, I think the largest numbers, in order (I'm guesstimating) are from UK, US, Australia then Canada and New Zealand.
I've never liked those one sided whiney columnists. Most of them are full of sh*t yet they get paid by these big publications.
