Does anyone know of a tutor who can come to your house. My dd is 5 years old and just started year 1. She is really struggling with her reading and writing. I've tried many different ways to encourage her, to make it fun etc., but no joy and I end up getting really angry with her and she gets upset. Therefore I don't want to stress her out any more or me, its not good for either of us and get a tutor who knows the best methods to bring her on a bit. Thanks.

I highly recommend Francesca McGeary who runs a literacy intervention program for kids with these same issues. Her number is 050-323-1251.

Everyone has a different pace. Some take longer and just one day it all clicks. Just continue what you are doing. If you feel your getting frustrated ask your DH to help out or maybe make turns.

I know it is easier said than done, and being here with such a diverse cultural group, where some kids are expected to be reading fluently and know all their times tables by the age of 4.... BUT 5 is still really young, maybe she just isn't ready. I would just try a relax and not worry too much. Have you spoken to the teacher, if they feel she is struggling they should really be talking to you about what options you have in terms of support.
