I’m thinking of enrolling my son at Nibras International School (Green Community). Does anyone have any experience at this school, especially in the elementary/KG section? The campus is really nice; clean and spacious; but the KHDA ratings were “Acceptable”. I have searched the forum but all previous posts are pretty old.
We are an Arabic family but I wanted a school with a good American or British curriculum, affordable and with qualified teachers. I’m not a fan of Al Mawakeb/Choueifat schools. Any other school recommendations for us? We are living in Motor City. Any ideas?

Hi, I have two kids in Nibras International School, Dubai, one in Gr 2 and the other in Gr4. What I can say is that our children's education and well being depends on their class teacher. As of now, my have kids had class teachers who are hardworking, communicative and motivated. However, the school is poorly managed as the principal and Head of Early learning years keep changing. The new principal is strict and rigid; enforces decisions that parents have no other choice but to follow. My kid has been suspended twice, once for misbehaving in class. As recommended by the school, he received therapy, only then was he allowed to go back to school. Following the action plan recommended by the therapist, my kid's behaviour improved gradually. However, he is very energetic and likes rough play with friends that he feels comfortable with at the playground, just like normal boys would do. Because of this rough play, my boy is not allowed to enter class until a shadow teacher who watches his every move is appointed. Despite explaining to the principal that this issue can be internally resolved, she did not want to listen and till stuck by her decision. A shadow teacher normally cost about 12000-14000 Dhs and we are not in the position to hire one. It is ridiculous. Now, my boy is not allowed to go to school until a shadow teacher is appointed. I DO NOT RECOMMEND any parent to send their kids to NIbras because parents have no say for their children's well being. The fees might seem reasonable but there are hidden costs, for e.g. exorbitant textbook and transport fees. There are better schools within that price range.

From the outside, everyone is very welcoming and nice at the front desk. The KG one is getting way over crowded and the teachers are grinning and bearing it for a long time now but their frustrations are rising. The new principal is very strict and rigid, which is what the school needed after the last principal up and left. There is a man who is the "face" of the school, he has no idea what he's doing, the owner just put him in charge because he's of arab decent (those are his words, not mine). There is no solid curriculum, the books aren't standardized. It's basically every teacher for themself. When they had their KHDA review, the new principal and the staff stayed over extra extra hours to make it look like they had all their ducks in a row, but they still didn't get a good review. If you're not looking for quality, then Nibras is good, but don't expect a lot from the school at the end of the day. I understand that it's on the more affordable side, but in this case, you do get what you pay for.

Just found this thread. Can anyone please share some honest feedback with children currently enrolled at Nibras? I visited the school already and have a good feeling as well, but not sure how it is "from the other side". Thank you.

Hi! Thanks na115 and CABear for your feedback. I have read the reviews on desert speak and now I'm really concerned about sending my son there. He was at Dubai American Scientific School last year which also had similar problems (unsatisfied teachers, high staff turnover). Does anyone know the teachers teaching Grade 1? As I remember when I went for a tour, they are two Arabs and one European, are they qualified, professional, caring? I don't want to have to move him after a few months! Unfortunately, I cannot afford to pay 30+ a year for his education, do I have any other affordable options in or around Motor City?

Hi Lamia, I have enrolled my 4 year old at Nibras for KG 2 in September. I have heard mixed reviews but think the primary grades are good and we will probably transfer schools around grade 2 or 3 if we are still living in Dubai. I did visit the school and got a very good feel for it. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming, patient with my son as he can be painfully shy. We had a tour and all the children looked happy, etc in the KG area. Also, I spoke to the director at my son's nursery about school options as she has a strong background in education and has raised 4 children here in Dubai. She thought Nibras to be a good school with a strong Arabic program and overall she recommended it. HTH!
