Our little man is the happiest little 11 month old but lately he is refusing to sit in his high chair or pram. He cries hysterically and arches his back so that it would be impossible for him to sit, unless I force him which obviously I don't want to do.

I want his chair and pram to be happy places for him, rather than a punishment. I try using toys or food to distract or tempt him, but nothing seems to work.

I have no real objections to him sitting on the ground to eat if we're at home, but he doesn't eat as much as he crawls off to play with something rather than eating his food. And I also feel its important to teach him that we stop to eat at meal times as a family..

The funny thing is that once he's in the chair or pram for five mins, he is absolutely fine so I don't think they are painful for him..

Any ideas?? I'm happy for him to become more independent but also feel we need to improve the situation for all involved! Thanks so much.

Toys R us sell a chair that attaches to a regular dining chair and buckles in - maybe your LO would prefer that since it makes it seem like they are sitting at the table with everyone else? My kids used something similar, many moons ago and it was much easier, especially when going out. No need to worry about high chairs

It's just a [b'>phase[/b'> and will pass as quickly as it has arrived. Make a big fuss of him when he does sit nicely and don't stress out when he doesn't. He's only 11 months, you've still got plenty of time to show him that meal times are family time :) Or maybe not given kiwispiers post ;) I still wouldn't worry about it. My baby went through a short phase of only wanting to eat on someone's lap at around that age.

My son loved his pram and was in his high chair until I physically couldn't lift him in. My daughter never liked either. To get her in the pram I bribe/distract her her by giving her my phone to hold, once we are moving she is ok. AS far as eating, we have a little Ikea table and chairs and she has always eaten at that. She is 20 months now and suddenly she likes the idea of highchairs again, but I don't trust her not to try and climb out, so we still tend not to use them. They are not essential, maybe just buy the little table?
