I am 23 weeks pregnant and have a one year old daughter. Me and her will be flying to Dubai to meet up with my Husband in October and I am looking for all the advice I can get on how to survive this flight.
Economy/business class? Which seats are the best? Keeping my daughter busy...she is very mobile right now and insists on it and with the disruption of the relocation and move she has become a bit tantrum prone. What about getting her calm and helping her fall asleep... medications or other suggestions? I would really appreciate any advice on toddler as well as pregnant flying.

If business is an option, take it. I find flying when pregnant much more uncomfortable than when when not pregnant, the extra space in business would really help. Take a small carry on with toys, snacks etc for your daughter and keep it with you rather than putting it in the overhead locker, it will save you having to stretch up to get things. Same goes if you have a nappy bag. Also, bear in mind that if you are going to have to lift your checked in baggage it's better to have two lighter bags rather than one heavy one. If nausea is a problem for you take food for yourself, plane food generally makes me feel queasy when pregnant.

Hi there, I can't help with the toddler part but I did a bit of flying when I was pregnant. I was recommended to take aspirin for 3 days leading up to each flight and the 3 days after arrival. I was also advised to wear thigh high compression stockings, walk around as much as possible and to drink a lot of water. The flight attendants should know to keep you well stocked with water but depending on how busy the flight is you may have to remind them. Hope it all goes well... OP, I'd advise against aspirin unless a good doctor has cleared you take it for a specific reason. http://www.babycenter.com/404_is-it-safe-to-take-aspirin-during-pregnancy_1357403.bc

I flew on my own at 13w with an 11m old in Etihad business class. The bassinet is pretty much on the ground - luckily he wasn't particularly mobile (lazy!) so didn't really climb out and I was able to use it to block him in. We then flew to the UK at 24w when toddler was 15m. I refused to do it unless he had his own seat. edited by tamieg1 on 05/09/2014

Hi! I flew around 20 weeks with my 3 year old on both flights. If you can get a business class seat absolutely take it, it'll be much more comfortable for you & perhaps your daughter can get a nap in a more comfortable seat. I did a day flight going & night flight coming back, having travelled lots with my DS I normally opt for night flights so he will sleep through the flight. Bear in mind you may have to carry her off the aircraft if you don't wake her when the seat belt sign comes on for landing. I pack lots of snacks (nothing with too much sugar as this backfires on you when they are hyperactive) IPad with new games (normally he gets very limited time with this) small, light new toys like coloring books, stickers etc. For yourself have a large bottle of water, some flight socks & keep moving your feet (inflight exercises you can do in your seat are available on most airlines entertainment systems) You will probobly find she will be amazing & you've worried over nothing, very best of luck!

I did this when I was 31 weeks pregnant, & took my toddler (2yrs) back to the uk alone. He was fine going out, but coming back was horrendous. We sat in a regular seat going out. He was entertained by the lady sitting next to us & the general hustle & bustle, plus biscuits & emptying my bag out. I did wear compression stockings. We were in economy class. He didn't go to sleep, but he does scream when he's tired. If you going down the medication route, try it before you fly, it can have the opp effect.
