Can you reduce excessive underarm sweating in Dubai? Here's what dermatologists say
Say goodbye to sticky underarms and armpit stains with Botox!
As residents in the golden desert that is the UAE, it's an obvious truth that we all sweat, especially during the summer. We get a little damp under the arms walking from the office to the car, or work up a red face during an outdoor workout (which, kudos to you!).
But for some of people, sweating in Dubai is a far more uncomfortable daily experience. We're referring to those who have to deal with excessive sweating, or Hyperhidrosis.
If your sweating seems excessive, then this handy dermatologist-approved guide to treating hyperhidrosis in Dubai is for you.
What is hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is when the body produces the sweat not only to regulate body temperature, but continues to do it even when the body is cooled down.
It could be something that you are naturally prone to or a side effect of a medical condition, or some triggers like exercise or high temperatures, alcohol, caffeine, spicy foods, stress, strong emotions.
There are several treatment options for excessive sweating in Dubai:
- Botox Injections
Botox for excessive sweating in Dubai
The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have approved Botox injections to treat excessive underarm sweating.
It works by blocking the nerves that activate the sweat glands. Those overactive glands get paralyzed by the Botulinum toxin, switching them off in that specific area. The sweat, therefore, doesn’t get produced.
However, Botox is not a permanent solution for excessive underarm sweating. The effects can typically last 6-8 months, or up to 12 months.
Botox injections can reduce underarm sweating by 82–87%, and people who receive underarm Botox injections will see results 3-5 days after treatment. The full effects are usually noticeable within 10-14 days.
The procedure is quick, and is done within 30 minutes. A dermatologist, or a doctor certified to use Botox, can perform the injections. During preparation the topical numbing cream will be applied for the treated area, to ease any pain or discomfort.
For the procedure, a specialist injects very small amounts of Botox into the skin. They usually inject it in a grid pattern, with injection sites approximately 1–2 cm apart.
Preparation for Botox:
There is no specific preparation, but definitely before the procedure you should consult with a doctor and inform the doctor about any medical conditions you have, and medications currently taken.
This helps to reduce the risk of side effects and complications.
People who are going to get Botox injections for underarms should not shave the area for 3–4 days before the treatment.
You can continue your daily routine immediately after Botox treatment, but avoid exercise, sweating, hot bath, and spa treatments for the next 24 hours.
Dr. Kamil Al Rustom Skin & Laser Centre recommends a follow up appointment in 2 weeks after the procedure, for the touch up of any missed areas, and check up for side effects.
Are there any side effects?
Botox injections are generally safe. Side effects are rare, but possible, such as bruises, swelling or allergic reaction. These typically go away in time.
