Of course, I asked the benefits of this treatment beforehand, and Dr. Allen explained that Dermapen (Micro-Needling), along with PRP Therapy, helps to stimulate the body’s own natural healing processes and collagen production, resulting in a fresh, firmer and more rejuvenated appearance.
Turning 44 in 2016, I’d do anything to slow down the process of aging skin, and anything that would help to keep my skin looking younger and more fresh, while also working from the inside-out. My skin regime is not the best; I am not a cleanser, or a toner type of person. Unfortunately, I just do not have the time. So instead, my routine is quite simply, face wash and moisturise.
I asked Dr. Allen exactly what Dermapen with PRP Facial Therapy will do for my skin? He explained that Dermapen, also known as Micro-Needling, is based on the skin’s natural ability to repair itself with its own plasma. In a similar fashion to other treatments I’ve had at Elite Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery Group, the plasma was to be injected into my face, but used with a Dermapen device.
The Dermapen device creates “micro-injuries” onto your skin, which triggers and boosts collagen and elastin production, which should then lead to skin tightening, wrinkle reduction, and improvements of your skin tone and texture. It’s also been clinically proven to reduce the appearance of enlarged pores, acne scars and stretch marks.
I was being treated for my open pores, which will aid my PRP to be absorbed by the surface of my skin.
As always, I was sent over pre-treatment and post-treatment instructions by the lovely ladies Nina and Levin from Elite Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery Group, so I could prepare.

When I arrived, both Nina and Levin were, of course, expecting me… As well as the lady that has now become an expert in taking my blood from my hidden and stubborn veins. Levin and I entered the consultation room, and Levin explained once again about the Dermapen therapy, and the results I can expect to feel and see. She explained that once they’d extracted the blood, my plasma would be separated and used for my treatment.
Numbing cream was applied to by face, as the Dermapen device uses small micro-needles, which can cause some abrasion on your face, which helps the plasma to absorb. I expected that my skin may feel tight, and redness may have been caused, as though I’d had excessive sun exposure.
In the treatment room, my blood was first extracted and then the numbing cream applied. It took just fifteen minutes to ensure my plasma was ready for my treatment and that my face was numb. As I laid down, Levin removed any excess cream from my face and applied my plasma to my lower cheek areas and chin area first. She lets me know when she’s about to start… And yet I was so surprised, as there was no pain at all! Of course, there was a slight vibration from the needles, but no pain at all.
I’d describe it as something similar to having a pain-free tattoo, for anyone who understands that experience. We began to laugh, Levin and I, as I told her to increase the dose of the micro-needling if necessary as I felt absolutely fine. It was nothing like I’d expected at all!
Both sides of my face were now complete, and she then moved to me forehead area. Levin explained that I may feel this more, as it’s a harder part of my face, yet I could only feel the vibration and we enjoyed a full conversation! My nose area was also pain-free, with no discomfort at all.
Once my treatment was finished with the Dermapen device, Levin applied the rest of my plasma to my face. As you can see from the after photos, my face is slightly pink and I expected it to look much worse, so I am pleasantly surprised.
Later that evening, my face felt a little warm, but I felt no discomfort at all. The following morning, I washed my face with just cold water and applied a light moisturiser. Levin completed a follow-up call to ask how I felt, and I let her know that, to be perfectly honest, I was perfectly fine. No pain, only a slight pinkish colour and there was no bruising or discomfort at all.
Look out for an update in few weeks time.
