Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy - The Preferred Treatment
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy is one of the few natural approaches in anti-ageing facial and body rejuvenation, using the patient’s own blood cells. PRP has been successfully used in orthopaedic medicine, dentistry and reconstructive surgery for years. It is now becoming the treatment of choice by men and women for Facial Rejuvenation, Skin Repair and Hair Restoration.
At Elite Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery Group, PRP Therapy is one of the most sought after procedures amongst our patients and during the years we have created various treatment packages incorporating PRP whether it being applied topically or through fine injections into the skin. However, since the launch of our MesoNatural Therapy, which combines Medical Microneedling with PRP, it has become one of the most popular treatment combinations involving PRP. And we owe this popularity to the word of mouth spread by our patients who tried this procedure when it was first introduced.
ExpatWoman Review of MesoNatural Therapy
PRP Therapy can be had alone or in Combination with any other procedure, here is a list of most popular Non-invasive combinations:
1. MesoNatural Therapy –  Dermapen Medical MicroNeedling with Topical. The micro-needling makes tiny “wounds” in the skin which accept the PRP serum and begins the process of collagen creation along with the tissue enhancement from growth factors found in the PRP. Typically used to for overall skin youthfulness, and to treat specific concerns on the skin’s surface such as fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, sun damage & pigmentation, acne scars and loss of radiance.
2. Elite MesoNatural Therapy – Dermapen Medical Microneedling with Topical PRP and PRP injections. The PRP will penetrate deeper providing a longer lasting results.
3. PRP Therapy with Dermal Fillers - The fillers provide an instant fill or volume correction. And the PRP, injected above the filler, immediately kick-starts a skin regeneration process. The use of PRP with fillers not only enhances the skin tone and texture but also prolongs the longevity of the filler - sometimes 3 to 6 months longer than when fillers are used alone.
4. PRP Therapy with Laser Rejuvenation – This combination is aimed at individuals who have lost their skin's natural elasticity and suffer from poor skin texture and tone. PRP is performed first in order to repair the skin cells which have been damaged due to ageing, sun exposure and other factors. It is applied in the form of sub-dermal injections. Then after 7-10 days the Laser Skin Rejuvenation is performed. Whilst PRP repairs the damaged cells within the deeper layers of skin and also stimulates the building of collagen, Laser Skin Rejuvenation, whilst also stimulating collagen growth, works on different layers of skin closer to the surface. Thus in combination all skin layers are treated, significantly improving the skin's elasticity and texture, resulting in a much fresher and youthful appearance.
5. PRP Therapy with Radio Frequency (RF) & Ultrasound Facial Sculpting – With this combination, similar results to combining Laser Skin Rejuvenation with PRP are obtained. However, the Radio Frequency and Ultrasound treatment also contours the face.

Bespoke Anti-Ageing Treatments

This article is intended to provide information about PRP Therapy. Please Note that the PRP Therapy offered by various practitioners and clinics may not be the same and the following applies ONLY to the PRP Therapy we offer at Elite Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery Group.

What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and how does it Work?

PRP is the part of the blood that contains a concentration of platelets.
Platelets are tiny blood cells that are important in the clotting process and fundamental to the body’s ability to stop any bleeding and repair damaged blood vessels and cells. As the clot is formed, the platelets release enzymes and growth factors that promote healing and play a role in tissue regeneration by attracting stem cells to aid in the repair of a damaged area.
The PRP is derived from the patient’s own blood and is injected into strategic areas to encourage healing and renewal through new collagen production and increased growth factors. This in turn creates a more youthful, plumper, and firmer appearing skin.

How does PRP Therapy work?

The PRP Therapy is a non-invasive injectable treatment made up of small injections into targeted areas of the face or scalp. The injections are very small and similar to those used in Anti-wrinkle injections and dermal filler treatment.
Prior to ANY treatment a thorough Consultation with a Specialist is necessary This is to assess your suitability for treatment, discuss your goals and expectations, and to inform you of all aspects of the procedure. Treatment can be had on the same day or at a future day following your consultation. In either case the following steps apply:
1. Planning and Preparation – Your Surgeon / Aesthetic Doctor will discuss and plan the treatment areas with you. The treatment area will be thoroughly cleansed and prepared.
2. Anaesthetic – If required or requested, topical numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area. For PRP hair restoration, local anaesthetic injections may be used instead.
3. Blood Draw – your Blood is drawn from your arm in the same way you would have a regular blood test.
4. Isolating PRP – The drawn blood is then centrifuged to separate the red blood cells from the Plasma – producing a golden-yellow liquid known as PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma). When this isolated PRP is injected into the skin, it will increase production of collagen and promote other healing effects.
5. Injection of PRP – The prepared PRP is injected into the deep dermis or fat layer of the skin using very fine needles, similar to those used for Botox injections.
6. Watch and wait - The various proteins and growth factors in the PRP stimulate the release of stem cells. The body is being tricked into believing that it has been injured and must heal itself with new tissue. This process promotes collagen production, tissue repair and cell renewal. The results will not be immediate and may take anywhere from few weeks to a few months for the full transformation to take place.
7. Repeat - For optimum results, a course of 3-5 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart is advisable, though sometimes a single treatment can be effective for some individuals.
8. Results – Results vary depending on the age, genetic makeup and overall health and condition of the treatment area. Patients begin to see/feel noticeable results within few days of the procedure. Improvement of skin tone and texture begin to show 3-4 weeks after the treatment session and continue to improve with time. The proteins contained in the PRP gradually increase the formation of collagen and connective tissue, promoting tightening and overall skin rejuvenation. Full collagen regeneration is normally completed within about 3 months. Results may not be very effective for patients who smoke, consume excessive amounts of alcohol or take drugs, because the quality of PRP is typically low in such cases.
9. Maintenance - The tissue that has been regenerated and remodelled is permanent, however the ageing process cannot be stopped, and as we age the problem areas will eventually reappear. Therefore, to maintain the result, touch-up treatments are recommended at an interval of 6-24 months depending on a patient’s age and skin condition.
There is minimal to no downtime following PRP therapy, however some minor swelling, bruising to a varying degree, and redness for 12-24 hours should be expected following treatment. Caring for your skin is important especially after your PRP therapy, skin hydration and sun protection are paramount. A daily skin care regime that includes a good quality moisturiser and multiple applications of sunscreen of 30 SPF or higher throughout the day is critical – especially in sunny Middle East.
Thorough Pre- & Post- Treatment Case Instructions will be provided.

Why is there no risk or bad side effect associated with PRP Therapy?

There are no risks or bad side effects with PRP, as its function is to stimulate new cell growth in the patient’s body wherever it is injected. It helps the body heal itself the natural way without using chemicals or foreign substances of any kind. Also the PRP is derived from the patient’s own blood and contains a concentrated amount of white blood cells (which are the body’s natural defenders against infections) the possibility of an allergic reaction or infection is almost nil.

Advice from Dr Allen Rezai on What you should know about PRP Therapy

A thorough initial consultation is essential. You should fully understand all aspects of the procedure and be given time to discuss your concerns and questions with the practitioner before undergoing treatment.
Thoroughly research your Practitioner/Clinic. Word of mouth and recommendations from people you know are usually the most reliable guide.
Cheap is not always best. Don’t base your decision on price alone. Find out how many syringes of PRP are used per treatment. In our practice typically 17-21 syringes of PRP are used in a session to treat the whole face.
Treatments should only be carried out in a clean, safe and appropriate clinical environment, so as to avoid infection and permanent physical damage. Treatments should be carried out in a clinical facility and NOT in a home setting or, for example, a nail bar or tattoo parlour.

Last but NOT Least, Is PRP Therapy Right for You?

As with any Cosmetic Treatment, a thorough consultation and assessment with an experienced specialist who can discuss all aspects of the procedure, including the pros and cons, and answer all of your questions and who can provide you with GENUINE information, suitable treatment options and realistic expectations is a MUST.
