Review: IV Vitamin Therapy at Elite Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery Group

It’s a treatment that has become increasingly popular thanks to celebs and their health fads, so our Editor tried it out for herself to see the benefits of having one…

It’s 7pm on a normal Tuesday evening, and I’m laid on a patient bed in the clinic. I was comfortable, chatty and completely relaxed as if I was there for just a regular check-up. Except this time, I had a needle in my arm, attached to a bright yellow IV drip.

Intravenous (IV) vitamin therapy – often referred to as ‘healthy’ cocktails pumped into the bloodstream that combat dehydration, boost energy levels and improve your immune system – have been popular in the celeb world for a while now. With huge names like Rihanna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Madonna and Rita Ora publicly showing their love for the treatment, it’s no wonder that this treatment is rapidly becoming more and more popular in the UAE… And more accessible to the general public.

What was once a last resort to boost energy levels of a sick patient, these concoctions of essential vitamins and minerals that are directly injected into your bloodstream is now a popular health and beauty must-have for people living in the UAE.

Understandably, could an IV vitamin drip really make me more energetic, look fresher and boost my immune system? These were the questions going through my mind before my visit to Elite Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery Group.

What is IV vitamin therapy?

Simply put, it’s a method of getting all of those great vitamins and nutrients directly into your body, and guarantees 100% absorption of them.
IV therapy of course differs for everyone, as everybody is different with different needs. When taking vitamins through pill or liquid form, or even from our food, the digestion process means we lose a large portion of those nutrients that we consume.

Individuals can have IV vitamin therapy for all types of wellness and health purposes, including recovery from hangovers and jetlag, fight colds by boosting your immune system, help muscle recovery after a workout, rehydrate the body, for anti-ageing and detox purposes, boost your metabolism and even aid weight loss… As well as giving a boost of energy!

Where can I get IV vitamin therapy, and what are the benefits?

At Elite Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery Group in Dubai Healthcare City, you can have your own IV vitamin therapy and depending on the concoction of vitamins in your IV drip, prices can range from AED 250 to AED 1500.

During my visit, I was given an energy boosting IV drip that would rehydrate my body, relieve body pain and muscle aches, boost my immune system, give my body a boost of antioxidants and even regulate my mood, appetite and sleep cycle.
Dr Allen Rezai M.D. – Cosultant Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgeon – was the doctor who sat with me first to go through what the treatment is, does and what I should expect from it. Both kind and reassuring, I knew I wasn’t going to have any fuss and felt completely relaxed throughout my entire time at the clinic.

I was carefully monitored throughout my entire treatment by two lovely ladies called Rose and Maria, who both looked after me extremely well throughout – monitoring my mood, asking regular questions to ensure I wasn’t feeling dizzy or nauseous, checking my blood pressure, which by the way, maintained a normal measure throughout the entire time.

In terms of the after effects… I can most definitely vouch for the benefits promised – I slept perfectly after having my therapy, which is surprising as I felt energetic until bedtime. The following day and even now, my energy levels are noticeably higher and I have not felt lethargic at work or on an evening at home. The term Superwoman comes to mind. So much so that my colleagues have noticed an incredible difference in my energy, attitude and my appearance – as a couple of people commented on my fresh face look that I’m sporting nowadays.

Is IV vitamin therapy painful?

Let me be frank – any needle or foreign object of any sort that is inserted into your arm is always going to be a ~little~ uncomfortable. While it may not be a treatment that’s for the faint-hearted or those who fear needles, take comfort in learning that at Elite Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery Group, I felt virtually NO pain whatsoever.

Needles to me aren’t so scary and Maria was extremely gentle when inserting and removing my IV drip in my right arm, so much so that I’ve had NO bruising from the treatment… Which of course, is always a positive result.

What are the alternatives to IV vitamin therapy?

There’s no denying the benefits of undergoing this treatment, but it shouldn’t entirely replace a healthy and active lifestyle. Individuals should always endeavour to have a healthy diet that is made up of a wide range of food groups, have an active lifestyle and/or take oral vitamin supplements.

But if you’re seeking a quick-fix with instant short-term health results, I highly recommend the IV vitamin therapy at Elite Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery Group.
