In search of smooth, plump skin? Profhilo is the answer you’re been looking for.
Whether you’re battling fine lines and wrinkles, or you’ve lost weight and need help with skin laxity, or perhaps you’re worried about that ‘tech neck’ you’re developing under that chin of yours… Whatever your concern, there’s a new treatment in town that aims to help you combat all of the above.
What I’m calling the ultimate pick-me-up-and-make-me-look-a-lot-better treatment, Profhilo is perfect for anyone in their late twenties and above who might be looking in the mirror and wishing for a holiday so they can rest.
Except Profhilo leaves you looking better than rested, as the hyaluronic acid (HA) based product is used for skin remodeling and treating skin laxity, as well as helping to fill lines and wrinkles. The result? A dewy, healthy, slightly plumper looking glow that takes years off your skin.
It’s the latest anti-ageing injectable treatment that has proven itself to be extremely effective in skin hydration, remodeling and restoring natural firmness of the skin.
I can speak for it myself, in fact; following a drop of 12kgs, my chin and lower face were in dire need of TLC, and I knew just the right person to visit to help rehydrate and re-texture my skin.
As with all injectables, you should go somewhere where they know what they are doing – like Elite Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery Group. At the clinic in Dubai Healthcare City, Dr. Allen and his team are extremely professional, and I’m always very comfortable during every visit here.
What does a Profhilo treatment include?
Essentially a moisturiser that is administered subcutaneously, your Profhilo treatments should be given in two different sessions, four weeks apart.
The solution is made-up of 100 percent synthetic hyaluronic acid (HA) – the expensive skincare product – which is injected by a tiny needle into your face to improve your skins texture in a way that no topical lotion could ever do.

Each session at Elite Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery Group involves cleansing, the application of a topical anaesthetic to help make the procedure as comfortable as possible, the actual Profhilo injections (no more than 2ml at a time) as well as the application of Arnica cream post-treatment to help minimise the risk of bruising.
The Profhilo injections are administered using a fine needle – like those used for dermal fillers – and are strategically placed in key points to help maximise the ‘spreadability’ of the product throughout the treatment. I had injections in my upper cheekbone, the jawline and either side of my nose on both sides of my face.
Do Profhilo injections hurt?
To clarify - Profhilo injections are customised for every patient, depending on their needs. Thus results and side-effects may vary person to person.
Like with any dermal fillers, a Profhilo injection feels like a pinch, which is then followed by a few seconds-long stinging sensations as the solution is injected. If like me, you have quite a high pain threshold, you shouldn’t find all 10 injections extremely uncomfortable.
The downtime? You may be left with small mosquito-like bumps where you have been injected for up to three to four hours post-treatment, as the HA has yet to disperse. Dr. Allen warned that I might feel a “leaking” sensation in my skin, as if the solution is escaping from the same injection site… But of course, this was not the case, and instead was just the feeling of the acid spreading under my skin.
In terms of visibility, the injection sites are not something anyone else would really notice – unless they’re an observant person, like your mother might be.
But whilst the downtime is minimal, that’s not to say this is a treatment that should be done before getting married or walking down a red carpet. After all, depending on what type of skin you have, you might experience a couple of bumps after a day or so.
Before and after my Profhilo treatments
As mentioned, I had two Profhilo treatments, four weeks apart in early 2019 with Dr. Allen and his team at Elite Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery Group.
Since the beginning of January, I have been on a health kick which has seen me rapidly lose weight in a short amount of team – resulting in loose, saggy skin in my face and a ‘deflated’ look. Sure, I’m healthier now but years of smoking, drinking and generally not taking care of myself has left my now skinnier self looking a little depleted around the jawline.
After my first treatment, I did not notice any considerable change besides a little extra contouring, which was expected after my discussion with Dr. Allen.

The first session can make a slight difference for others who undergo the treatment; you might look a little perkier, and if you were to have Profhilo on your hands or on your crêpey neck, I imagine you might see a result sooner as these areas get so little TLC.
As I had Profhilo around my lower face, it was after the second treatment that I really noticed. My skin felt plumper, tighter and looked all-round fresher and more youthful.
The best thing about Profhilo is that the first noticeable changes are just the beginning; the HA will continue to stimulate collagen for up to an additional eight months, after which it is advisable that you top up once or twice a year to continue the shine and plumpness of your new-found, youthful glow.
