Good News is that there are few things that one can follow to help maintain one’s oral health during each trimester:

Before Pregnancy

If you are planning for pregnancy then please do include a dentist appointment in that plan, before getting pregnant. That way, your teeth can be professionally cleaned, gum tissue can be carefully examined, and any oral health problems can be treated in advance of the pregnancy.

During Pregnancy

Scheduling a routine dental care during pregnancy is important but also remember to check with your obstetrician if you need to follow certain precautions or instructions.

During your dentist visit, let the specialist know the names of all the medications you have been prescribed. This includes all the Vitamins, Calcium, Minerals, etc. This is important because, at times, some of the dental procedures might require alteration based on the medication.

But, if you need to get dental X-rays done, you can do that during pregnancy only your dentist will have to take extreme caution to safeguard you and your baby such as shielding your abdomen and thyroid.

Hormonal changes even increase the risk of periodontal diseases, tender gums and bleeding gums - which is termed as pregnancy gingivitis so, its always advisable to consult a specialist.

But it also goes without saying that maintaining a good oral hygiene practice can definitely prevent and/or reduce oral health problems.
