What you need to know about breast cancer?
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death for women aged 35 to 60. In the developed world, about one woman in nine will develop breast cancer at some point in her lifetime, and two thirds of women who develop breast cancer have no known risk factors.
Early detection is key in the successful treatment of breast cancer. When it is found and treated in the early stages, the five year survival rate is around 95%.
Monthly self-examinations
All women should conduct monthly self-examinations and women above the age of 40 should have annual mammograms and clinical examinations. No-one knows your breasts like you do.

Breast awareness is part of general body awareness and you should get to know your breasts and become familiar with their appearances. Learning how your breasts feel at different times will help you to know what is normal for you and to recognise any changes, if they occur.
A larger number of breast cancers are detected by women themselves during self-examination. So, even if self-examinations are regularly performed, it is still important to get a mammogram or ultrasound.
Despite this, many women are still reluctant to go for regular mammograms. Remember that these exams can help save your life.
Women with a family history of breast cancer should consult with their doctor at a younger age about the possibility.
