We all notice and try to fight the marks that time leaves on our faces and our bodies. But do we do the same with its effects on our private areas?
Our genital organs go through a variety of changes under the influence of childbirth, hormonal changes, and ageing.
Those changes manifest themselves in the form of vaginal looseness, itchiness, burning, lack of lubrication, painful intercourse, or a general loss of sensation during intercourse, and urinary incontinence (which is the inability to hold urine).
This is why there is an increasing demand for vaginal rejuvenation procedures in Dubai. Those are procedures that aim at tightening, restoring natural lubrication, improving the appearance of the vaginal area, and stimulating the growth of healthier tissues around the vagina.
What is PRP?
PRP stands for platelet rich plasma.
It is obtained by collecting a small amount of the woman’s own blood, separating the plasma portion rich in platelets and growth factors, from the red blood cells, and reinjecting them in strategic areas in and around the vagina.
What are the benefits of PRP injection?
- Improves lubrication
- Restores satisfaction from intercourse
- Relieves itching and burning
- Improves libido issues
- Improves mild forms of urinary incontinence
How does PRP work?
PRP stimulates the growth of new and healthier tissues around the vaginal area which leads to gradual improvement of the symptoms.
How do I know if I need it?
If you suffer from vaginal symptoms discuss them with your doctor, who will examine you and assess their cause. Then you will be advised whether you are a candidate for PRP or you need other lines of management.
Is a PRP shot a long, painful procedure that requires refraining from sexual intercourse?
You will need to spend around one hour at the clinic. During this time a small amount of your blood will be collected and centrifuged with a special machine to separate its components and the platelet rich portion is used.
You will receive a local anaesthetic to abolish the possibility of any discomfort you might experience during the procedure. The PRP is then injected in your vagina (G-spot) and the clitoris. The injection is not painful and does not cause any reaction or irritation and is done as an outpatient procedure, after which you can get back immediately to your normal daily activities with no need to abstain from sexual relations.
It has minimal side effects since no chemicals are used so there is no possibility of developing an allergic reaction. You might experience some discomfort at the site of injection, mild bleeding, swelling or bruising which usually improves spontaneously within just a few hours.
When will I start to feel the improvement?
It usually takes one month for you to start feeling the difference, though some women start feeling them earlier or later than that.
Do I need to repeat the injection?
Yes, the effect usually wears off after six to 12 months with an average of nine months, in which case you will need to repeat the injection.
Are there any long term side effects of the procedure?
None reported.
Is there any contraindication for the procedure?
No, but if your symptoms are due to marked vaginal prolapse, then you might not benefit from this procedure and in that case the doctor will advise you to have surgical repair of the prolapse rather than just local injections.
In summary, around 20% of women in the child bearing period suffer from vaginal dryness, which increases to near 50% in post-menopausal women. And almost 45% of women suffer from problems with sexual satisfaction. If you are one of those, it is time you start addressing your problem.
