Family travel is a wonderful way to bond further with your loved ones, explore new exciting places and activities, and create unforgettable memories!
However, when there are kids involved in the travel, bear in mind that things can go wrong, and for that reason, our friends at Pacific Prime Dubai want to share top 5 tips to make traveling with kids fun and relaxed, but most importantly - safe!
Plan, plan, and plan
With a functional, kids-in-mind-first plan at hand, you can minimize some of the travel mishaps and make the whole journey a bit easier for yourself and your children.
- Strategically plan flight/train times
Especially if you are traveling with small children, it’s a good idea to choose day flights, trains or buses so that you won’t interfere with their regular sleep cycles, and spare yourself, and all the other passengers.
- Pre-book everything you can
Plan your journey in advance so that you know your hotel location, and travel times and dates. Normally, spontaneous twists in the schedule are not well received by the young travelers. Children also require more rest times, especially after a long and stressful journey, so heading straight to the hotel is a good idea.
- Leave plenty of time (for the unexpected)
Allow plenty of time especially for transportation, as when you’re traveling with children everything takes a bit longer than usual. Boarding the plane
Know the (travel) health risks
Traveling itself can cause some troubles, and some children can experience ear pain while flying, or they get car sick easily - and you should be prepared for all these situations. Besides typical travel health risks, make sure to bring items (depending on your travel destination) such as sunscreen, bug repellent spray, and hand sanitizer, but it’s also a good idea to research the country you are about to visit and see if they have any health warning, or if your family may require any vaccinations beforehand.
Keep an eye (or an app) on your children
Making sure you always know where your kids are may seem obvious, but in a rush time and crowded space, one second passes and your curious little one can wander off to explore something. Best if you can share the vigilante duties with another adult on the trip with you, or invest in child’s tracking apps and wearables for the extra peace of mind.
Bring generic medicine
One of the easiest ways to ruin a wonderful getaway with your loved ones is having to care for a sick family member. Hence, it’s a good idea to pack general, over-the-counter drugs with you such as ibuprofen, activated charcoal, non-woven flakes soaked in alcohol (disinfectant), first aid items, namely: the bandage, thermometer, and a few Band-Aids together with a gel or spray for wounds that also seals the wound. It’s a good idea to also pack probiotics, depending on when you’re going and also to consult your general practitioner and bring some broad-spectrum antibiotic.
Make family insurance priority
When going abroad, especially with your loved ones, having proper travel insurance is a must. You do want to ensure that should anything happen, you can rush to the nearest hospital or clinic and don’t have to worry about the high medical costs.
Since Dubai is notoriously known for being one of the most expensive places in the world to buy insurance, insurers oftentimes offer international coverage in their health insurance plans.
