If excessive underarm sweating causes you discomfort and embarrassment, you are not alone.
Millions of people suffer from this medical condition called axillary hyperhidrosis. This type of hyperhidrosis can be so severe that it interferes with a person’s ability to function in society. A permanent solution to this problem is the miraDry sweat therapy, now available at Mediclinic Deira.
The therapy is non-invasive, FDA cleared, and delivers precise electromagnetic energy to the sweat glands two to five millimeters below the skin surface where they are heated and destroyed. Because the sweat glands do not regenerate after treatment, the results are long-lasting. You can expect a reduction in sweating almost immediately after treatment, without the use of chemicals or toxins.
Advantages of miraDry
- A quick, in-office procedure
- Non-invasive and toxin-free
- Dramatic reduction of sweat
- Long lasting results
What is the procedure like?
To keep you comfortable, the clinician will begin by administering several small injections of a local anaesthetic to the underarm area. Each treatment is customised, with the miraDry System handpiece positioned as needed, and lasts about one hour.
What happens after the procedure?
Your doctor will likely recommend a mild over-the-counter pain medication and the use of ice packs for a few days. You should be able to return to your normal activities right after the procedure, and you can typically resume exercise within several days. Some localised soreness or swelling is normal, but it typically clears within a few weeks. In some cases, swelling can be more significant, but in our experience, it always resolves with time.
What results can I expect?
Most patients report a dramatic reduction in underarm sweating. In a recent clinical study, the average sweat reduction was 86% after two treatments. You should see a reduction in sweat almost immediately after the first treatment.
However, research has shown that two to three treatments, spaced three months apart, produce the best results. As with any medical procedure, results will vary. The results are long-lasting because the sweat glands do not come back after they have been eliminated. Recent data shows that the benefits remain longer than one year.
