Traffic Fines Have Been Reduced by 50% for Dubai Drivers

To those of you who still have unpaid fines for various reasons... Here's an incentive to finally get them paid off.

HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has issued an order that will see a 50% discount on all traffic violation fines from 2016 and before.

In line with The Year of Giving, the order was released at the end of Ramadan, prior to the Eid Al Fitr celebrations, and was announced online by the official Dubai Media Office Twitter account.

If this applies to you, now's your chance to settle those fines and start again with a clean slate. Head to your nearest traffic department, Dubai Police or car registration centres to pay them off. You also have the option of paying online through UAE bank sites, or at all Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) centres. 

But be aware of the dates...

The discount is only valid on fines committed before 2017.

And is not valid on on any issued from January 1st, 2017 to date. The discount will only apply from July 1st until the end of the year, too. 

What is the Year of Giving?

In December 2016, the UAE's President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan declared 2017 as 'The Year of Giving', which focuses on three key pillars of 'giving'; Corporate Social Responsibility, Volunteering and Serving the Nation. The initiative was inspired by the values of hospitality and generosity, which lie at the heart of the UAE's Arab identity and the example of the country's founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
