The past weekend brought about an unfortunate event for one individual, who saw their car roll (and sink) into the Dubai Creek.

Dubai Police and The Department of Maritime Rescue of the General Department of Transport and Rescue were called to the scene after they were alerted to the incident.

Authorities rushed to the scene within a matter of minutes, as they worried that there may have been passengers inside. Divers found the car at the bottom of the creek, and it was then recovered using a crane.

The cause? The driver hadn't put his handbrake on.

As the Dubai Police's post on their official Facebook account said, the driver 'did not take special safety procedures to stop the car', as they failed to use the manual brake.

We're sure this is one lesson we wouldn't want to have to learn this way.

Maj Ali Al Naqbi, the head of the Dept. of Maritime Rescue warned drivers to always double check their parked cars before walking away.

"Don't stop cars without using the handbrake, and don't rush off without ensuring that all precautions were taken to stop the car from moving.

"Make sure that the place is suitable to stop in, too, especially if it's close to the docks or a cliff."
