Have you been called Dirty Harry because you don’t make your bed in the morning? Well not anymore, according to science alerts, you are cleaner than those who make their bed in the morning. This is because dust mites prosper in a warm, moist climate that is often created by that well made bed in the morning. Those of us who get up and leave the bed a mess actually let the bed as well as the dust mites dry up completely, resulting in a cleaner bed.

 
Don’t worry, even if you make your bed in the morning there is a way to get rid of your dust mite infestation.

Weekly hot wash: Wash your bedding at least once a week in a hot wash. This will kill most of the dust mites in your sheets and covers.
 
Sun or machine dry: To get rid of the remaining dust mites that survived the wash, machine dry or sun dry your bedding. Whatever you do, do not leave your bedding to dry inside the apartment, the humidity will just worsen the situation and stimulate the growth of the dust mite population.
 
Wash Pillow: If you pillows are older than a year then the weight of the pillow is 10% dust mites. Wash your pillows in a washing machine or dry clean it.

Clean your mattress: When your sheets and pillows are drying, it’s time to clean your mattress. Use vacuum and vinegar solution to clean your mattress. Don’t forget, the mattress must be absolutely dry before you put the bedding on.  
 
Cover mattress and pillows: To make your job easier next time, buy a mattress cover from IKEA. Than all you’ll need to do is to wash your mattress cover on monthly basis.
 
Replace your carpets with linoleum: Carpets tend to collect, dust, dirt and moisture and thus they become the perfect hiding ground for dust mites. Replace your carpets with linoleum for an easy cleaning.
 
Buy a dehumidifier: Take UAE humidity, AC and your constant presence in the house and you have the perfect environment for dust mites. Buy a dehumidifier in Carrefour or IKEA and aim to get your home humidity levels to 50% or below.
 
Freeze stuffed toys: Stuffed toys or throw pillows are not all machine washable, in order to kill all the dust mites inside them place the toys in a plastic bag. Remove the air from the bag and place it in the freezer for 48 hours. The dust mites will be dead and the toys are safe to play with.

Call for a professional: If you have a serious dust mite problem to the point where your household has developed constant allergies and sickness you will need to call for a professional pest control and deep cleaning service.
