What is permanent lip liner?
To clarify, lip tattoos are only meant to enhance lips – not create actual fullness.
A permanent lip liner procedure is simply a mild form of semi-permanent tattoo that is designed to define your lips. The colour is implemented around the border of your lips and helps to give the illusion and appearance of a fuller lip. It does not actually create volume or puffiness.
Is permanent lip liner permanent?
Unlike actual tattoos, which penetrate deep into the skin’s surface to create long-lasting colour – permanent lip liner isn’t actually permanent. The procedure doesn’t penetrate as deeply as a traditional tattoo, and thus results last just a few years making the treatment semi-permanent.
It is possible to have the colour as close to your natural lip colour, but this means that the liner won’t last as long. The more natural your colour, the more frequent your touch-ups will be.

The downside is that it exfoliates out of your skin, and since you always use your lips to talk, eat and drink – it’s going to happen faster.
How long does it take for lips to heal after permanent make-up?
You should be able to immediately resume your daily schedule with no-downtime post-treatment, and the healing process takes roughly 10 days to fully heal. Your lips may look very dry and chapped as they heal and the colour may go lighter – but as your skin heals, it comes back.
Expect to see the full, truest colour after about two weeks.
How long does permanent lip liner last?
Gradual fading can be expected for all micro-pigmentation procedures like lip liner, and so the length the results last depends on the individual’s skin type and the specific shade used.
Most lip liner colour lasts three to five years, although some may not fade for as long as 10 years.

Since your lips are used frequently for talking and consuming food and drink, getting lip liner carries a risk of getting an infection as the mouth harbors hundreds of kinds of bacteria.
Following the initial procedure, every touch-up brings in a new added risk of infection, too.
