After a long day of meetings in Abu Dhabi, a friend and I visited Iris Dubai at The Oberoi Hotel in Business Bay one Sunday evening.

As a newbie to Dubai, I always look forward to exploring and trying new restaurants, and Iris Dubai did not fail to disappoint.

We arrived at the front of the 5* Oberoi Hotel driving down to the underground car park to find a personal valet service for Iris Dubai along with the private elevators to the restaurant.

Once we reached the 27th floor, we were warmly greeted by the friendly hostesses, guided down a corridor with stunning artwork and shown to our table where we had a view of the Downtown Dubai skyline and the Burj Khalifa, mesmerised by the beauty of the place.

The restaurant had an energetic vibe with a great atmosphere, beautiful lighting and the service was spot on.

Straight away we were presented with the dinner and cocktail menus, it was super difficult to make a decision on what to go for as it all looked so good and we were both really hungry after a busy day at work!

We started with a Spanish-style fried calamari to share with jalapeno, lemon zest and tartar sauce, it was perfectly crisp and crunchy, and the dip had an almost tantalizing taste to it – a great starter combined with pre-dinner drinks – delicious! They provide table service, so you are able to truly sit-back and relax, take in the views and savour every bite of food.

For drinks we ordered an Argentinian white wine, which really complimented the calamari.

What I particularly loved, was that you could witness the chefs preparing the dishes in an open kitchen which has parts of transparent glass, and the rest mirrored windows so you could see the kitchen and also the reflections of the barmen preparing the cocktails. We were definitely looking forward to our next course!

For the main I decided to go for the marinated Angus tenderloin with sautéed bok choy and mash potato, my friend order the lime marinated grilled corn fed chicken with jus court & confit ratte potatoes. Both were cooked to perfection with great presentation and big portions.

For dessert we chose a decadent layered chocolate mousse with berries to share, the perfect way to round off a big meal, I am guilty of a sweet tooth! Although it was really hard to bypass the option of crème brulee…

The atmosphere became very lively towards the end of the evening, with the DJ spinning some great tunes.

Upon leaving Iris I noticed the restaurant has won lots of awards such as the Time Out Dubai Nightlife 2015 award for the best nightlife lounge bar.

I will definitely be coming back for cocktails and dinner on the weekend or even popping over after work to de-stress and reward myself after a long day.
