I am a nutrition grad and while I do believe carbs are the key to good weight management, you need to identify that all carbs are not equal. Fill up on fruit, pulses, dairy and vege and the science is that you dont flood the system with insulin but get the necessary energy. Sometimes your metabolism needs a lot of support and rebalancing hence you get stuck. XY Clinic in Dubai are experts at this and gut issues I can't agree with this. Science or not, if most women filled up on fruit and dairy they would not lose weight. I agree that gut issues can hinder weight loss, but gut issues are most often a product of eating junk. Pure and simple. Stop eating junk, gut heals, weight is lost.

Hello Ladies! I am a Dietitian and Nutrition Expert and i work here in Dubai. I see that you are quite concerned about your diets. a lot of diets exist but you should know but not always the same things work for everybody. the best formula to maintain a healthy diet is to have all kinds of healthy food in moderation, without cutting on any kind of nutrient. Again i tell u there are few exceptions! BUT please do not fall for the fad diets, because not everything u read online is reliable! Ask me if anything. Healthy Regards to all!

I lost about 9kg on this diet, then when I was just short of Consolidation i went to the UK for 3 weeks, I found it hard to stick to the consolidation rules when eating out, visiting friends, staying with family etc, and 3 Kgs crept back. I re-started the dukan on Sunday and already I have lost 2.5kgs!! I am alternating PV &PP after a 3 day attack and have decided to go a little lower than before as my body shape has changed since pregnancy and what was an acceptable weight for my frame before doesnt look so good now so I intend to lose a further 3kg before consolidation. I am a huge Dukan fan, only downside is that I have no energy for Zumba, but once I have made it to consolidation this will change edited by jenna7jenna on 14/10/2011

hmmm I've read the whole thread now and you ladies are selling it to me :D can I just ask if you are cooking this for just yourselves or cooking the same meal for the family? I've done diets in the past where I've just cooked for myself and abandoned my own boring healthy meal to scoff the rice/pasta, as it looked so much more tastier.....rubbish willpower :(

I paid for it, and never actually went ahead with it. The meals food they want you to eat sound horrendous so gave up - I went back to weight watchers instead! is there a WW here?

I'm not finding it too bad really. On day 12 today and have lost nearly 4 kgs! The food is unexciting and functional really but I get too easily tempted to overindulge in nice stuff so for me it's better. I don't feel hungry in the least which is a great advantage. The best recipe I've had so far is the chicken tikka.

A friend of mine mentioned this a few months back....sounds very interesting. I'm not sure whether I can stick to it, but I would like to lose a fair bit. How are you finding it so far?

the best advice I can give you? read the book, then mark pages...you honestly will be further ahead if you understand the whole thing including the what to eat, not to eat and the little notes he puts in the book. He suggests a diet drink (I use coke zero) lots of ice and it works. One a day though and you can have fruit yogurt but plain is recommended. Sugar craving will lessen with time. You are only on day 1 so just do it, do not try and fix your sugar cravings, just go with it and it will pass. Lots and lots of water and make you pancake in the morning unless you are a nighttime eater then make one to snack on later in the evening, they keep in the fridge, add lots of herbs etc. anyway, read the book, take the time :)

Quick question for those in the know - how did you satisfy your sweet cravings on your pp days? I have tried the oat bran with sweetner and have just tried fat free yoghurt with sweetner but its just not doing the trick! Might try a hot chocolate with sweetner now....uurrgghhhhh....

thats fantastic Xmas baby - well done you! I would ideally like to lose about 8kg but have set my goal at 6kg for the moment and will see how that goes. I have a couple of events coming up in the next month or so though so I think its going to be difficult to stick to but I just cant keep putting it off forever! When you go into the cruise phase, did you go 1pp day and 1 pv day or did you do, for example, 2 or 3 pp days and 2-3 pv days? which do you recommend and which is most effective you think? I eat quite similar to the pv days already as it is so I dont think it should be toooooo difficult apart from cravings and my favourite grape beverage at the weekend LOL!

I agree pollydxb - the initial days arent very nice. I think I will buy the recipe book to give me a few more ideas rather than eating the same thing. For you experienced Dukaners, I had been advised just 3 days on the attack phase - would I lose more weight by staying on this phase longer or would it be best to go onto the next phase after the first 3 days? Also, for the cruise phase, did you alternate 1 pp day and 1 pv day or did you have consecutive days of each? TIA! If you don't have a lot to lose, you should only do the 3 days as suggested. Your body will get used to it and it hinders the overall effect. I lost about 10kg on it starting in Feb and haven't gained back a pound with regular eating now so I do believe in the method! Good luck and if you have any other questions, let me know! As for the boredom, yes it does set in but there are a lot of different things to eat - curries, roasts, and because of the dairy, its a big help. When you do the Protein-veggy days, it feels like such a treat!

Hi lucky4uitsme, thanks for the tips! havent noticed the sodium rule yet? Where did you manage to source fat free philadelphia? Have seen low fat but never fat free I dont think? And fat free ice cream in places such as the well known parlours? am not so much of a carboholic so am hoping that this wont be too difficult especially once I get past the attack phase. i think breakfast may be an issue but will check out different recipes. thanks again! would LOVE to lose 11kgs!!!!!

Hi LIL, Before I got pregnant , was on the Dukan diet for 4 and half months and went from 63kg to 51.9kg its a great diet and the results are amazing ... I changed my eating habits completely from being a complete carb-a-holic... The best advice I can give is to always have everything prepared on what you will have for breakfast , lunch and dinner so as not to be tempted. Snack food - surimi sticks, crab sticks, turkey, chicken - stick some fat free philli on these and roll them up :) , fat free yogurt and oat bran (can find the oatbran in spinneys), sugar free jelly, coke zero - this saved me , boiled egg, turkey bacon, turkey/chicken sausage, meat balls, tuna and prawns in dukan mayonaise, fat free ice cream. Check the sodium content also on some foods as they can be very high and not suitable for the dukan. I did start drinking alcohol after week 4-5 and found it didnt make much difference with the weight loss. You will feel tired and may get headaches for the first week ... this does pass. Stick with it ! Start working out after the first week go for some walks then build up from there. Good Luck ! :D ....
