Pants. Not when used correctly, like I am going to buy some new pants today, but when people say 'That's Pants'! edited by IAMVP on 24/11/2011

... Xmas ... What's wrong with Xmas? It means the same thing and is a common (and quite ancient) abbreviation derived from the Greek alphabet. ETA: if people say "ex-mas", now that I find irritating. ;) edited by Green-ish on 24/11/2011

palpable as in "the tension in the room was palpable " .Makes me think of rotting pears that are all puffed up .......and it is so over used by authors and journalists to describe a situation.

Baby, as in "Don't forget to put a hat on baby before you take him out", like it's the baby's name. To me it would be like saying "Don't forget to put the lead on dog before you take him for a walk". I am aware that I have probably p***ed of 98% of EW-ers, but...... :)

'erm' and 'er' - every time I see these written, it's like I can hear in my head how ridiculous these words would sound in an actual spoken conversation. Have never understood why the "R" is in there to be honest as most people would say "Eh" or "um"

"Heigh ho" is an Elizabethan expression of boredom or sadness. See much Shakespeare. V different from Disney's dwarves. Regardless of its origin, it still bugs me. And given the way people use and spell it......more dwarf less Shakespeare to me. edited by Catawba KSE on 21/11/2011 edited by Catawba KSE on 22/11/2011

I hate the word 'squat.' I don't know why -- just a vulgar sounding word. Maybe linked back to grade school when we were made to do squat thrusts in PE! I also hate the phrase 'hey ho.' What are you -- the seventh dwarf?!

when people say 'myself and...'. It's grammatically incorrect as 'myself' is reflexive i.e. 'I wash myself'. It doesn't make you sound 'posh' but stupid! I hate the way people are misspelling 'definitely' 'definately' all of a sudden. Why? Other words and expressions that bug me are 'date night', 'yummy mummy', calling one's son 'little man' and 'concept store'. Don't ask why, they just do!

*whispers* I use one when I'm out with the dog as it means I have my hands/arms/back free but can still carry tissues, dog poo bags, phone and GPS. I hate the word fanny, full stop (I was going to say 'period' but that's another word I don't like). Im with you on that one too.....esp when people decide to tell you all about theirs in way too graphic detail when you just dont want to know about it full stop!! makes me want to gag!!
