Thanks girls :) I actually hesitated to write about 'that shop' but it really is sticking in my craw and I think I might write to the owner if I can find out who he or she is. Is there a way to say polite way to tell an owner that 2 of his/her shop assistants (though one was way worse than the other) are racists who decide as soon as a person walks in the door if they are worth bothering with or not. Then there is the way one of them in particular had 'that look' down to perfection. You know the one where you're looked up and down by someone and they strike a particular pose with their nose and eyebrows when they are doing it. Its like a sneer and you're being dismissed even before you've opened your mouth to speak. Ah well - I imagine Green would suit them perfectly because I think thats whats at the bottom of it all.

oh pronovias pronovias! beautiful dresses ugly consultants! :) i know from my own experience how devastating is to find a dress that suits ur budget in dubai! for my own wedding i had to rent one from my homecounty spend a lot of $ but it was at least what i wanted! My friend though was lucky enouph to order it from a lady who has her own bridal salon and she got Maggie sottero dress for a fraction of the dress cost! not an advertising but if anyone needs help to find european styles on budget i can give the tel number, may be it will make somebody lucky bride!

Pronovias - I would have pulled my teeth out rather than let there assistants loose on my daughter. Nasty is all I have to say about them - but I wont include the Eastern European assitant in that. Sadly though the day I went to make the appointment she was going out to luch and I was left in the hands of 2 other who were just down right nasty. The dresses were lovely but they were all a variation on the same theme - they were almost identical to each other. This is where I thought she'd have found her dress as everything she'd liked on line was Pronovias but the lack of different styles meant there really wasnt anything to chose unless you were sure you wanted the mermaid/bootylicious/fishtail look. My daughter thought she was sure but as it is - she went for what she said she'd never consider. :D Congratulations you and your daughter found a great dress :) I had to quote you only because my best friend got married in Dubai four years ago and she and her mother had the SAME experience with Pronovias! I think she got her dress either from Bridal Room or Wedding Shop in the end, and with a discounted price tag! Oh Pronovias...when will they learn that their staff in Dubai are SO offputting and I would agree verging on nasty. I have never felt so uncomfortable in my life and such a shame as they had lovely dresses! I also found success at the Bridal Room. Really hope you have an amazing celebration and glad she found the dress! :)

Hi, I just thought I would update this thread. We got the dress. We arrrived in Dubai at 1pm on Saturday, went to the first shop at 3pm and bought the dress from the third shop at 6pm. So here's a rundown on the places we went to. FROST - a very small salon with a few dresses. It very much needs updated and more stock on hand. The assitants were Ok but they really didnt have anything to sell. THE BRIDAL ROOM - really nice assistants, really really nice. They made our experience a real joy and all the more so considering my daughter was now realising she is getting married - that its actaully happening. There were loads of dresses to try on and many a different style and we did think we'd found the dress here but I said lets try one more shop just to make sure and ........... Still, I would recommend them to anyone. THE WEDDING DRESS SHOP - this is where we found 'the dress' and had a marvellous time. The assistants were lovely, really fun, and there were rack and racks of dresses. Arushi we didnt get to but they were very nice, as well as helpful, when I called to make the appointment. My daughter thought she was sure but as it is - she went for what she said she'd never consider. :D Barbara - we didnt get as far as contacing her. So all in all it was a really good experience. :) edited by DesertRose1958 on 03/04/2012

When DH & I got married I was disgusted by the price of a dress I was going to wear once. I ordered a totally custom dress out of china, made to my measurements, and it took 18 business days from when I ordered the dress to when I received it. It was stunning

Thank you ladies :) Plumie - we are enjoying it all, but yesterday we went out to a coffee shop for a natter because it was the only way we could be sure neither of us would raise a voice or react to ruffled feathers after a heated discussion the night before. :D :D Oh and we took eldest daughter as well just in case :D Aussiepup - thank you for the offer but at 5foot 3, I think my daughter would be lost in your very lovely sounding dress. Coffeemate, we were going to make the trip to the Uk for the dress but there is no way it can be done before the end of June, and thats just a bit too close to December for my liking. I'm gald though it wasnt going to work out because until I asked here I didnt know what was available in Dubai. I dont mind a mark up - all things considered. :) Southerenstar - thanks for the heads up :) Mavis - yes I would like the contact details pls? thank you :) edited by DesertRose1958 on 17/02/2012

My friend was going to buy her dress from the bridal room until she discovered that it was a Dave's Bridal dress retailing for $500 in the states and they were wanting 8000 AED for it. Be careful, but have fun shopping around!

If u have the opportunity to buy in the UK, I would do so. I ordered mine from a gorgeous little boutique shop in Suffolk. Came back to Dubai, found exactly the same dress in the Wedding Shop, AED 4000 more expensive. Of course, that's only convenient if you're travelling home anyway.

I'm thinking of selling mine, it's strapless sweetheart neckline with Aline skirt (semi full). It's diamond white silk with schwartsky (sp) crystals over the skirt in some places. I bought it new approx 8000 aed. Happy to sell at 2500 aed. Does need a dry clean. size 10-12 Australian size, and to fit 5 foot 9ish height. I also have 3 different pairs of white shoes size 8-8.5 (38/39) that I bought coz I couldn't decide and then never wore! Went with a sexy pale pink and black lace pair ( couldn't see them under dress) Happy to send a photo if u interested email me on shareeness @ hotmail dot com I love it, but reality is I ain't going to wear it again and it's sad just sitting in the cupboard not out sparkling!

Oh thanks Plumie :) I have Frost and The Wedding Dress Shop on my list but I didnt know about Saks. I'm getting all excited now :D One shop I called in the UK said some girls are ordering 18 months ahead - I almost passed out. I know its kind of short notice but its the way its done here, but I'm not so worried now. :D No - 6 months will do! My dress took 3 months to make, then fittings once it arrived, then alterations and i picked it up a week before flying off to get hitched :D Such an exciting time and how lucky your daughter is to have a Mother who can share and be involved in the "choosing the dress journey" and not too mention stress! ;) SAKS has a huge selection of high end American designers. You need to make an appointment for a viewing though, so best to call ahead! Pronovias, works on appointment as well! ENJOY!

My wedding dress is an Elie Saab dress from Pronovias! I cannot fault the service and experience i received, however that was back in 2009. Everything happened according to a time-line - appointments, fittings, meeting with the seamstress, and the final fitting! My dress also had to be altered and i could not fault the service nor the work done. Also cleaning afterwards was handled very professionally! Other places i visited before making my choice was: SAKS 5th Avenue Bridal Room @ Burjuman Centre The Bridal Room The Wedding Dress Shop FROST Boutique HTH

Thanks for that Kelly :) Most of the dresses she likes are from Pronovias but we plan on shopping around just to so what else is out there. I think Dubai it will be as there really doesnt seem much of a need to go to the UK for it now. I am kind of worried though that if it needed altered it would be butchered so to speak. :)

I can tell you that Pronovias in Dubai Mall is a 6 month lead time. I think thats pretty standard for 'proper' wedding dresses as they are made to order. You can however buy off the peg in some places, sample sales High-Street bridal ranges etc, but not in Dubai, i don't think.

My youngest daughter has decided to get married in December and we're wondering how far in advance a dress would have to be ordered from the likes of The Bridal Room? Shops in the UK are saying a minimum of 6 months. Would it be about the same here? Thank you ladies :)
