Very interesting comments and thanks for those. I thought I may be weird about being so happy to be back home to the rain and cold weather and all that! However, luckily for me life for me back home is a lot easier. Finding a job was no problem. Am actually saving now. Petrol yes is a lot more but fortunately I live in a small place so that's not a problem. I actually enjoy driving a small car now and feel safe in doing so!!!! I love my job over here and there is never the worry that if I did happen to lose it to then worry about bank accounts, visas etc. Saying that, it's been a nightmare for me, with all the red tape, to try and close my account in DXB but hopefully that will be resolved soon and thanks to my lovely sister in DXB. As I mentioned in my opening post, I miss my friends like crazy but then again, I met some so called friends who have now left me with a bitter taste in my mouth!!! Thanks again

I don't think it costs more to live in the UK than here but for most people you don't get paid the same so its not really comparable! I missed the sun, being a stay at home mum ( i had to work when I went back to UK) , my friends and our lifestyle. If we returned to Scotland just now we wouldn't have the funds to put our kids in private education or purchase a health club membership as my husband is not able to earn as much back home. Of course I also miss my friends from scotland, my family and sometimes the weather, especially the snow but for the most part I am happier here. When I went back it wasn't as good as what I remembered, sometimes we have our rose tinted glasses on and now I really make the most of Dubai and what it has to offer.

are you back in UK? And is it costing less to live there? Income and taxation aside I am convince it costs less, DH is convinced it costs more. Of course it depends on your abode, and your choice of car...but overall? I don’t think Bornconfused is in the UK, It’s been really hot here all week apart from yesterday when we had a bit of rain. Some things are cheaper here and some things are more expensive (ie petrol) personally I spend a lot less on things like food, clothes and days out. I use much less petrol as I can walk to more places. I pay marginally more for education and health care is cheaper because the children get their dental and health care for free (I’ve not had to use the Doctors much as they’re hardly ever ill here) I’ve swapped my beach club membership for a health club membership at a hotel nearby which cost less than my membership in Dubai. Holidays and travel are also much cheaper from here. HTH

I rarely come back to see what is going on. I have always only missed my friends. I have been quite happy with having 4 seasons, the travel without restrictions. And currently enjoying the week long rain fall we have had..

I miss my friends from all corners of the world, the winter weather ( wasn't a fan of the summer heat). My role in fostering and re homing animals, my garden and the genies who would come once a week to clean the villa... What I don't miss, the crazy drivers and the indifferent customer service when things went wrong esp. large ticket items. edited by Nomad on 18/03/2012

I left DXB in the summer to return home but I am intrigued to find out from those of us who left and still come on here to touch base but do you miss DXB and if so, what do you miss? At the moment, for me, I just miss my friends.
