((Hugs)) winterice and everyone who wrote here. I just got back after staying with my dad for a month, looking after him as he was very unwell. Its heart breaking to see your parents get old and frail. And to know that they will be gone forever sometime soon. ( Oh, I know how that feels right now.

I lost mt dad 10 years ago on Monday. I miss him dreadfully. My lovely FIL died while we were in Doha in September 2009 then MIL died in June last year. These people have left such a hole in our lives. Hugs to everyone in the same position and to those who have simply drifted apart, please try and build bridges. If our parents were stil here ( my mum is still alive) we would make far more of an effort to see them more often. We are a long time dead and life on earth is far too short. x My deepest sympathy to the OP xx

Winterice, i was in exactly the same place as you are now just 10 months ago, I soo feel for you. You will never stop missing him and will always just want to pick up the phone and ask for his advice, but i can say that the horrid, shock, bewilderment, anger and the rest does ease. I think of my Dad every day, but now it's usually with a smile and nice memory - and I do still talk to him (although he'd think I was a mad as a hatter for doing that!). One step at a time - it's still very very soon. You will be in my thoughts. x

thinking of all you ladies. I guess it's not until they're gone that you suddenly realise they're not coming back...I just expect my Dad to always be there...will stop taking him for granted!

I just lost my dear dad in late January, and I miss him, too, so much. I am smiling at the moment, though, watching my son play Wii, and he made one of the players on his team "Grandpa." It's rough, and my sympathies to you.

Lost my dad - at far too young an age - 16 years ago tomorrow. And although the pain of missing him is not as desperate and raw, it's certainly still there. That said, this time of year always makes me think how very fortunate I was to have had him as my dad and I try to concentrate on that. Of course, easy for me to say that now after so many years. I was not as reasonable about it years ago. I wish for you strength and peace.

My Dad is alive and well but I haven't spoken to him in years. I sometimes miss that father-daughter relationship too. work on mending the relationship with him once again while he is still alive, I wish i had a dad or mom to share my happiness and sorrows with!

i lost my dad five years ago when i was all of 8 months preggers... i was so angry at the time... especially coz my Dad wouldn't get to meet his first grandchild (i'm an only child and my dad loved kids so he was really looking forward to seeing my lil bubba)... it was a difficult time for all of us... however, i found a quote online that really helped me put things into perspective... "God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around you and whispered "come to me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best."

My dh and I both lost our dads while we were here and it was very very hard. Big hugs to all who are mourning here. It's very hard as you don't have your friends who knew your parents too to talk to. I hope in time you will all be able to look back with smiles on your faces like I can now do when I remember my lovely lovely dad. Xxxxx
