6 months back, I was sailing in the same boat... but not anymore... I have stopped using any comercial shampoos or conditioners... one of the reasons for me to stop using shampoos n conditioners was not just extreme hair fall but also the really harmful chemicals they use which are also carcinogen's. I have gone completely poo free and my hair is looking better then before and do not have to wash it every second day like the past. Hair fall, well my DH is happy to see no more hair on the floors every time I run my fingers thru it. I use Castor oil with a carrier oil (olive or coconut oil) mixed well and then apply it to my scalp and tips. Wrap a towel around my hair for 45 mins and then immediately head to my shower. I make a paste with baking soda and water on my palm and then massage it onto my scalp. Once my scalp is scrubbed I rinse it off and again put the baking soda paste on my hair to make sure the oil is removed. I dod this only when I use Castor oil. I have played with the proportions to suite my needs, As a conditioner, I use a variety of things.... well most days I do not use any as the oils are a great conditioner but once a week I do condition with either of these homemade solutions.... diluted apple cider vinegar or used chamomile tea bags soaked for about one hour in warm water or stale beer or a drop of essential oils diluted in water. After I step out of my shower I immediately comb my hair and have to say, do not struggle with knots any more. I have stopped using the hair dryer completely and let it dry out naturally. Hair has stopped falling and now it's started to strengthen itself. Hair has a natural shine to it and feels soft n smooth. DH too uses this mix without the conditioner and we bathe our dogs n cats with this mix too....

I'm with the others on the nutrition and vitamins, the veggies etc just are not fresh here and lack of vitamin D I am sure plays a part. (although that seems to be a bit of a bandwagon at the moment) if you buy local they are fresh - if you buy imported then of course they are not. It probably has more to do with the nonsense that people eat; processed foods, junk food, etc etc. If I buy local, I have to buy a lettuce the size of Jupiter to get one salad box out of it,80% of it goes in the bin, so how "fresh" can that be

I spend my life at the minute sweeping the floors due to the amount of hair I'm losing although touch wood it's not noticeable in my appearance (at the minute). I eat healthily (rarely eat junk food etc), exercise regularly etc. I had noticed hair loss in UK this summer but not a patch on this - I'd attributed the loss in the summer to stress re relocating out here. I regularly saw an acupuncturist in UK and would be grateful for the name/clinic of the one Appletiser uses. Thanks. me too, seems like i am always sweeping my hairs up off the floor. i never had a problem with my hair till i came here, it used to be really thick and healthy but now its thin, dull, weak, and does not look healthy at all. I have been to a dr who says theres nothing wrong but the water here and my hairdresser also says the same. Any way, i went and invested in one of those 'blu' shower heads, with the vitamins etc inside and i have noticed a difference,.... only a small one as i only had it a week but a difference is a difference, my hair feels much more healthy now.

hair coming out in 'handfuls' is usually when you are on chemotherapy for cancer. Dropping 10 or 20 hairs in the sink when you wash your hair is another thing altogether. I have been here for nearly 10 years and have yet to have hair coming out by the handful nor had a problem with my skin due to the water...and I am not the only one this has not had this problem. the questions I would ask..are: 1. have you had your hormones checked? 2. It s normal to have handfuls coming out just after a child isborn....I have a few friends freak out about this and the hair grew back. 3. What is your age? 4. Have you talked to your Dr. about this and has he/she recommended more testing? anyway....you must head out to a professional to find out what the problem is....no one here is actually qualified to give you advice other than their own experience but not grounded in science nor medicine :) so....your hair is coming out in handfuls? I would be kind of upset about that...and head to a proper Dr. to find out what is going on :)

It probably has more to do with the nonsense that people eat; processed foods, junk food, etc etc. I highly doubt that every single woman with hair loss here eats junk and nonsense.

Maybe get a filter. I noticed a lot more hair fall in Dubai too. I hear it's because the water pH level is a bit lower than what it should be....

I read an article recently somewhere, regarding the hair fall issue, one of the dermatologists here in AD, said he had been part of a panel trying to establish the reason for hair fall in the region and they had discounted the water as a reason. I'm with the others on the nutrition and vitamins, the veggies etc just are not fresh here and lack of vitamin D I am sure plays a part. (although that seems to be a bit of a bandwagon at the moment)

My DH's acupuncturist told him the reason people lose hair is because there is not enough oxygenated blood reaching their scalp and blockage in a meridian line. This can be due to various reasons but in Dubai the main cause is the sedentary lifestyle of people. He told my DH to massage his scalp regularly and each day let his head be upside down so that the blood can rush to his head for about 5 minutes. Also acupuncture sessions to unblock the meridian line. I was laughing when he told me this but I have to admit that my DH hair is not falling out anymore and growing faster.... Can i please have the nane of the acupuncturist your husband went to. Tks
