Hello Ladies, I am moving from Abu Dhabi to Dubai ( 5-bed to 4-bed villa) and I asked for company quotes and am in the process of finalizing- Could any one share their experience with any of these companies: 1. Phoenix Movers 2. Emirates Logistics 3. Writer relocations 4. E-movers The price quoted is in the range of 7'000- 10'000 AED; Insurance premium is at 1% Are there any questions that I need to ask, prior to finalizing, except those already included in the standard T&Cs. Preferably looking for a company that isn't too expensive and within the reasonable range but willing to pay for a recommended good company!! Thanks xx

Hi LaVie, Thanks for the reply. I cancelled my maid's visa eventually and she is now on her way back home, I had to drive her to the airport and also up to passport control.. whew!. Apparently during probation, which is valid for 3 months, either party can cancel at a day's notice. Best, Ruby

Hi Ladies, I have a full-time, live-in maid and I arranged for her to be transferred to my husband's sponsorship one month ago. We are not happy with her work attitude and complaining nature. She is on a probationary period for 3 months and she has not yet completed one month! I would like to understand the procedure for visa cancellation and our obligations for her. 1. Are we obliged to provide her month's notice given that she is still on probation? 2. I believe the we do need to provide her a one-way ticket back home . Do we also need to take her to the airport? Appreciate your advise the soonest possible! Thanks, Ruby

Hi, I am desperately looking for floor lamps like the ones sold at IKEA in Europe but I've realized that this isn't the trend out here. Does anyone know where I could find any new or second hand ones. Thanks, Ruby

We had decided to give her the option to leave as there's no point in forcing someone to stay with you if they are unhappy. Luckily good sense prevailed upon her and she has decided to stay and honor her contract. In fact, she's much more happier these days..!! :)

Hi, I've heard great things about the Wilton cake decorating courses. Does anyone know whether they provide classes in Abu Dhabi. Any details on other cake baking and decorating classes would be appreciated. Cheers, Ruby

Hi Milly60, Thanks for the reply. My son wants to learn the electric guitar. As per the info on their website you need to book a minimum of 12 classes. Is that correct?

Try Waitrose at Eastern Mangroves. You might find some more choice there. Regarding spinning classes, there's one happening at Fit Studio in Mangrove One compound http://fitstudio.ae/index.php/buy_and_reserve_classes/ and the other place is Abu Dhabi Country Club. http://adcountryclub.com/members-section/ Hope this helps. Cheers

Hi Beany, Have been caught up in the daily routine so couldn't thank you earlier! I've heard that there are smaller clinics as well where you have a fixed ped. I wouldn't prefer to have a different ped for the kids every time we visit a hospital. Any recommendations on the names of paediatrician's as well as preferred clinics and hospitals. Much appreciated. :)

Hi Weekirst, I had the same experience with the agents who decided where I needed to visit, but she definitely showed me the nicer compounds which were more to my liking. I really liked Mangrove 1 which is brand new but the downside is smaller rooms than Mangrove Village. Of cours its a no brainer when it comes to the quality and finish at Mangrove 1, very European. Al Dhabi is a nice compound price-wise you get more space surely. Did not like Al Maqtaa and Al Qurm, found the latter had rather small rooms..complete no no with the considerable furniture that we have. Do you know the price and bedrooms for the Al Bateen complex. I haven't visited it as there wasn't any vacant. Let me know of any other compound that I might have missed...as always thanks a lot for your help!! Cheers:-) edited by Ruby_ch on 23/09/2013

Thanks weekirst. The Mangrove villas 4 and 5 beds are rather expensive though very modern but above budget for us. Did you see any other compounds in the area whilst searching for this one? Any recommendations would be highly appreciated. :)

Hi, I am new to Abu Dhabi and trying to settle in with the family soon. We are on the look out for a 4+ bed villa on the island. 1)With a maximum budget of 230-240K do you think its realistic to find a new property within a compound and with facilities? If so, any pointers in this regard? 2)How much can you negotiate on the prices? 3)As there are too many agents on the websites, could you recommend a few reliable ones. 4)With regards to the agent's fees, is it 5 or 10%? 5)Any ideas on the Mangrove One new properties price and quality wise vs the older Mangrove Village villas? Any other advise on the villa hunting process is welcome!! Cheers, Ruby edited by Ruby_ch on 18/09/2013
