I've heard that the Al Barari (where the Farm restaurant is) can be hired for weddings. The site is gorgeous and it's secluded.

Let me know if you are looking for someone to make the cake and I will put you in touch. Hi there, I'm the bride (my sister started this post) :) I've gone for Desert Palm so venue is locked down but I'm trying to find somewhere to make a profiterole tower ... currently waiting for a quote back from French Bakery - otherwise does anyone know on anyone who makes them? Thanks so much

Used to work in this field in Dubai. Only paid/hired performers need to be on the license. There is no charge for an entertainment permission from DTCM for weddings. If guests at an event choose to get up and sing a song, they do not require DTCM permission. They have to be your guests though. Any paid performer eg a DJ would need DTCM permission. Try the Address Montgomerie or Arabian Ranches?

You could try DiVAZ - it is a boat tied to Jebel Ali Hotel… We had our wedding there and it was awesome! Good luck! I should mention we had a DJ but we also had guests singing….

Thank you everyone. It not easy finding the right place and I think word of mouth and personal recommendations are the best, so I really appreciate all your advice. Now that we know the entertainer fee is not applicable it has certainly opened the field somewhat!! Quite cheeky that a a few places who have already sent us proposals have included the dhs750 per performer fee in their quote! Snuffle - Congratulations!! I will let me sister know about Ajman. Lizziej - I'll be in touch if Sally needs a cake referral.

I just had my reception in Ajman at the Kempinski. We had ours indoors though as we preferred somewhere really private. We had around 4, maybe 5 different people up DJing throughout the night (all guests and/or DH), and they didn't ask for any license/funds for each person. I also found they were the most reasonable hotel out of all the ones we looked at (which was virtually every hotel in Dubai, RAK and Fujariah as we wanted a beach location as well). Happy to answer any questions you might have. edited by Snuffle on 17/11/2013

Hw about the Polo Club at AR? We had our wedding there (albeit 7 years ago so things may have changed...) and it was lovely! All in the middle courtyard, amazing buffet and had music too (a DJ, not personal friends playing though so don't know about that bit).

It is a private cub. They do have live music outside until quite late. I can testify to that, I have stumbled out of there with a "vino allergy" in the wee hours of the morning a few times :-)

Cannot suggest anywhere in Dubai but The Club in Abu Dhabi does private functions and they have nice places by the beach, plus they are reasonably priced. Maybe worth checking them out if you guys do not mind the trek. I understood that Abu Dhabi hotels cannot have live music outside after 8 pm.

This rules out hotels and golf clubs as they require a license for every performer who will sing or play at a cost of dhs750 each!! Its meant to be a casual affair with friends singing or playing acoustic music as and when they want to. Not correct actually! They only have to 'pay' for the licences if it's a public performance. The hotels can get the permissions done, without charge for private events. I did this for my wedding reception.

do you require alcohol at the event? if not you could also look at hotels in sharjah edited by HorizonMum2 on 17/11/2013 There will be alcohol at the wedding - the bride is English and the groom is Aussie :) I will check out the Ajman Kempinski though. Good idea thanks.

why not rent out a villa at the Palm and then you could do this all by the beach just outside your property... also, please note that the DTCM charges per entertainer is NOT APPLICABLE for weddings, birthdays etc (i know coz i'm a wedding planner and i deal with this on a regular basis with the hotels) also look at some of the beach properties OUTSIDE DUBAI... like Ajman Kempinski do you require alcohol at the event? if not you could also look at hotels in sharjah edited by HorizonMum2 on 17/11/2013

BBQ in the dessert? Where in the desert? What would we do for toilets and electricity? Are there camp sites?? Sorry, I'm sounding a bit dumb but we really are not a camping family! lol

My sister is getting married here in Dubai next year (March). They live here and her fiancé is in a band. They want to have a buffet style outdoor reception and for entertainment they would like to set up a keyboard and some acoustic guitars so that their musician friends can get up, at will, during the afternoon/evening to play. This rules out hotels and golf clubs as they require a license for every performer who will sing or play at a cost of dhs750 each!! Its meant to be a casual affair with friends singing or playing acoustic music as and when they want to. I have searched and searched and cannot find anywhere. DOSC was suggested but you have to be a member to hold a function there, or 10% of the guests have to be DOSC members. But a venue similar to this would be ideal. Does anyone have any ideas please?? Budget isn't huge as they are paying for the wedding themselves and the guest list will be approximately100 people with friends and family flying in from the UK and Australia. Thank you in advance :)
