We are moving into a new apartment and the landlord has allowed us to renovate the bathrooms which are quite small. We are looking to remove the bath in the master bathroom and install a stand alone shower cubicle and in the 2nd bathroom we just want to replace the bath with a better one and also replace the shower head, new tiling etc.

Can anyone recommend a company that can do this for us, that might also have a showroom or catalogue where we can choose the shower design / tiles etc. We are looking for someone reliable and affordable as we will be paying for this out of our own pocket so it doesnt need to be fancy.

We have, and building permits were not mentioned. Just permission from the landlord.

Has anyone done part renovations of their bathroom which they were renting? We have approached someone to do the work and although we have permission off the landlord to do the work, the contractor is saying we need a building permit? The building does not belong to any developer and is owned by one local guy who is also the landlord so do we need a building permit still as I thought you only needed permits if you were renovating Emaar or Nakheel properties for example?

Thanks Tattie! Any other recommendations welcome, we are just looking for an affordable company as we are renting so dont want to spend too much (landlord has approved) to replace our two baths with walk in showers.

Sorry for the delay Skyhigh. He has a company called Space Design but their website doesn't seem to be available anymore www.spacedesign.ae - he's done a couple of jobs for us and was fine but I don't think they are well known so you may not get a lot of research done! Maybe they are not even operational anymore. Anyhow, see how you get on.

Still looking for someone affordable to replace old bath with new walk in shower. Only this replacing as well as I am guessing some wall tiles but I do not need a complete renovation of the bathroom.

Oliver has his own contracting company that he uses. Or you can try MAB Maintenance, I have used them in the past but you need to keep on top of them. You can either shop around yourself and get the contractor to buy for you (some of them seem to be able to negotiate discounts). MAB for instance used to bring over a few samples of tiles or catalogues and they'd go price it up for you.

Thanks Dragon, so I am guessing I have to buy the fixtures separate then get someone else to remove the old bathroom fixtures and install the new ones? Can anyone recommend any other affordable contracting company that can install the fixtures?

We have just had our master and guest bathrooms renovated and I am delighted by the result. We had a lot of input in the process, bought our tiles from Dragonmart (a lot cheaper than the shops on Al Mahalluadin (?) street (the street where RAK ceramics is and all the other bathroom shops). Simple bathtubs were limited at Dragonmart (many had jacuzzis jets, etc) so you'll probably have to trawl around. There is one on SZR, same side as Change Initiative and along a stretch of shops just before you reach MOE. We spent a bit more on fittings from Bagno (they might be on sale now?). Our bathroom contractor is Oliver at http://goettling.me/ mob: 050 260 3220. He can work with any budget so don't let the gorgeous website put you off!

We're doing this at the moment and using RAK ceramics and Kludi. The designs are pretty good and prices reasonable with a year's guarantee. Renovating , so our contractor will do the installation. You can check out their online catalogs.
