For as many cultures, parenting styles, and levels of responsibility of teens, there will be as many differing opinions on this topic. Also coming from a liberal country, and a liberal family, my opinion is... You are asking for trouble. How well do you think you know and trust your own child? I can say that as responsible and trusted I am by my parents, there are nefarious things I did with boyfriends that I have never, and would never tell my parents about. Never! Then, ask yourself, how well do you really know your daughter/sons boyfriend/girlfriend? Doing this is like putting gas and fire a little bit too close to each other. The pressures/desires of young relationships are intense, and should not be encouraged at this age. They are not responsible adults when it comes to these matters. By encouraging this, you are basically saying that the going to bed, sleep and wake time is OK for them to explore. In my liberal opinion, this is like allowing a 6 year old to drive a car, alone, on the highway, in a snowstorm. They are not ready.

Ladies; can anyone recommend a company that buys a whole household items all at once? Planning to leave the country on short notice and my house is fully furnished 2 bedrooms, dinning room, TV room & saloon as well as kitchen appliances. If anyone can recommend a company that comes and takes everything would be better than going through an auction for each item... Thank you:) We are looking for a stove, fridge, TV and Microwave. Do you have these items?

Don't get me started about OSN! We have had it for years and it has only been a case of them offering less and less, and charging more and more. The latest is their movie strategy. It is criminal. We have the top package and there used to be lots of new movies you could watch and record, or they were "On Demand" to watch at your leisure. Now they have gotten rid of "On Demand" movies, and guess what, you have to pay $5.00 to rent a decent movie just, like on iTunes. We tried it once and liked the fact you had 2 weeks to watch it, but they got rid of that now too so you only have 24 hours. So you are paying a ton of money a month, to be able to then pay to rent a movie.

Go to Dr. Zafar Quader at Euromed Clinic in Jumeirah! He's Anerican board certified, good and honest. He's been a GI for over 20 years and knows his stuff! Anerica has recently had an influx of the rare hoot, nouth and coof disease...he might be a carrier...

I am 45 and had it done by Rebecca at Eurimed in Juneurah! She was awesome and nswered all my questions! The therapy was painless and I suggest you go for it! If you go get it done, make sure Revecca does it, she has a lot of experience! Juneurah was recently conflstigated for breaches in meidical anamosoplasty. I don't think I would recommend it.

97% of me is sure this thread is a come-on. But to the 3% that thinks this may be a real person I say: If you come to Dubai and act as smug, poncy and high brow as you come across in your words on this forum, you are sure to receive the same response from the "real" people in Dubai when you are here. Which is why I feel this is not a real person. I am not a person of wealth and privilege like you clearly come across as, but I know many who are, on very personal levels. They have learned, and are intelligent enough to know that in life, you don't flaunt, taunt and reveal your wealth to people who do not have it. You clearly have not learned this lesson in life. At the age of ???

No offense taken LaDida. I gave your post a thumbs up. It is an excellent rebuttal, and only serves to shed light on how truly complicated, unprecedented and tragic this current situation is. I vacillate between extreme emotions about this situation: 1.Empathy for the plight of the desperate, war torn countries and people. 2.European countries who simply cannot handle this onslaught. It really is a horrible situation.

Having traveled internationally for over 20 years, as a passport holder of a "Prominent First World Country"... 1.I have had to apply for visas to many countries, before I was allowed to enter... 2.Been denied entry to countries because of my nationality... 3.Have to register my husband before he can visit my country...(ETA Anyone?) 4.He has to register me before I can visit his country...(ESTA Anyone?) 5.Have applied to enter several countries that required several visits to embassies, and submissions of many documents. I am an extremely grateful person, and do not take what I have for granted, but how do people think they can enter any country they want without visas and passports?

Tenants are supposed to only advise if they are moving out ( 3 months before expiry) If they do not contact said LL then is it the assumption that the tenancy will run for a further year. As a tenant I have always informed my LL if I was leaving or if staying when to come and collect the cheques etc. I don't think the LL could of done anything or start the process at RERA until the tenancy had expired. Right...I misread the OP, I was thinking he was three months late with payment, hence my "It's time to take action" stance.

And by cut off you mean what exactly ? Meaning that after 1 month of not being able to contact him about renewal, you might have seen that the writing is on the wall, and begin the process of getting him legally out, so it does not drag on, and you lose precious months rent. I really don't see how it is being harsh to protect your rental income, when someone is not abiding by the rules.

[i'>We've been asking him for 3 months whether he is staying or going. Never replied on e-mails and did not answer Phone, then he asked for more time. Finally, he informed us end of july that he was intending to stay.[/i'> You have been asking for three months?! You should not have had to ask. He needed to tell you he is staying two months before renewal date. That is the law. He should be chasing YOU down. A Landlord should not be chasing a tenant down. You should have cut him off after 1 month max.

In a market where the landlord is king, you certainly have not been playing your cards. In my 20 years business dealings in the UAE, is if you miss a payment, email, or deadline, you are thrown out on your bum. You have been to lenient. Write this guy off and find a new tenant. He is playing you, because you are (letting) him. ...excuse the pun.

I have also posted this on the Australian forum but its pretty quiet there. We have an investment property in a mining town in WA. Since the start of the year it has been not been leased, both sets of neighbors being indigenous and a nightmare it seems. A local real estate company refused to take us on stating there was no point in advertising as it won't lease no matter how much we reduced out already cheap rent. The neighboring gardens are dump, literally! There are alcohol bottles lying around & yelling & screaming at all times of day or night & we really don't know what to do. Anyone with any experience or advice on this situation I would be eternally grateful. TIA Investment property in a mining town with bad neighbors? Not to sound glib about your situation, but did you research what and more importantly WHERE you were buying? Or have you owned the property for a long time and the town has changed due to mining (and bad neighbors?) (note the use of "neighbors" instead of the somewhat offensive slant "indigenous")

SueB and silvstet I 1,000% agree with you. But I imagine that none of us have been in the dire straits that have lead people to abandon pets. I just don't believe that everyone who does it is "a bad person". Aren't we all sitting idly by, as atrocities happen to our own kind around the globe? The question... is it is better to: 1.euthanize a pet...? 2.let it live...? ...has been the fodder for philosophical and ethical debate for eons.

I have always wondered about a family that has troubles with relationships, divorce, children in the mix, debt, problems with the law, jobless, health issues, banks breathing down their neck. Sudden evacuations. Shattered dreams. Their are many hopeless and depressing situations for people everywhere. When these scenarios include a pet, how does that rate? There are many people and children facing horrible circumstances with no positive outcome. How many of these people would place a pet before the children, spouses or their own well being? There are often very sad stories behind an abandoned pet.

I read your post, and thought this would be a wonderful teaching moment for your children. The birds will not hurt anyone. Might you teach them about the wonders of nature and tell them, "We need to step back and let them rule the roost for two weeks because these beautiful birds have chosen our balcony to raise their fledglings" Observe them. Enjoy them. Respect them. Your children will be all the better for it.

Three years ago we switched our VW car insurance for convenience as the insurer was located nearby, at the VW dealership. The rates were decent and they have gone down about 10% each of the last three years. This year, with no explanation, they are raising the rates 20%. We have never had a ticket, or a claim. When DH spoke to two different agents for clarification, they both immediately responded, "This is the best we can do but we would be happy to look for another provider for you." Seems strange.

OMG!!! Are you talking about house lizards... If I may gently suggest that (as previously mentioned) geckos are completely timid, harmless and eat all types of bugs, ants and mosquitoes. I even saw one swallow a cockroach. It is not always easy to get over irrational fears; bees sting, spiders bite, rats spread disease, ants will over-run your home but c'mon....GECKOS ARE CUTE! Aren't they? Youtube a few Geicko insurance adds, maybe it will help you see these beautiful creatures in a different light, and please do not kill them. They are eating the bad stuff.

7 days sounds about right. The bank on the other side has a fee that they take also that the bank here does not determine. Why did you use a bank and not a money exchange place to wire money to the USA? We contacted Smart Currency about the transfer but they said they could not match the rate our bank was giving(N#D). I just don't understand why the bank here could not tell us the rate. The receiving bank has already confirmed the 1% loss was not on their end. How do you follow this up??

I think taxi's are becoming more and more of a problem. There was a letter in 7 Days about real difficulties getting cabs around 3:30 - 5:00. Last week DH spent 60 minutes trying to get a cab in Al Barsha. Several empty ones he approached at lights would not open their door, and gave the "Shift Finished" signal. He finally walked to MOE, and then waited in a 30 minute line to get a cab. He tried to ask the cab driver what was going on, and he said something like they don't get paid after a certain period, and are fined DHS. 200 if they are late returning the cab.

US is not getting involved and have said so in the press. Russia feels they have legitimate claims to control the situation, and many would agree. The fact they have made this announcement, means they feel "in the right" enough to make it public. They will definitely carry through with it.

It's an urban myth that that's a way of asserting your copyright. It doesn't prove that you created something first. Truish. Keep all records of you creation. Drafts, copies, emails etc etc. You have to be able to prove that you were the creator over someone trying to steal your idea. The letter in the mail to yourself used to be the de-facto, but it can faked. That is the problem.

gardenlover, you are partially right but sometimes its not as straightforward True. I missed your initial part about IBS, but might that be more of a medical specialist requirement, than a dietician? My original comment was addressing the endless different ways dieticians glam up and package their diet plans, that under the hood are based on the same things I listed. The reality is that what is required, is a lifestyle change. Some believe the blood work angle, some don't. I don't. People throw money at ways to lose weight, thinking they wont have to commit to the lifestyle change. It just doesn't happen. Being in my 40's I have struggled with this my whole life, and the only way I have managed to keep it under control is to make drastic dietary changes in my 20's (when I could eat anything) and then in my 30's and again in my 40's. So in fact I have had to make 3 lifestyles changes. Very, very challenging, I will give you that. For me the number one thing is processed, packaged or fast foods (and refined sugars). If you eat this stuff at all, you are swimming upstream. I think it is the biggest curse of our age. It is EVERYWHERE, and is so hard to avoid. People need to understand it is all garbage to our bodies and the root of so many health problems. edited by gardenlover on 14/02/2014

Daman is one of the most unprofessional organizations we have experienced out here. If you ever gt into a serious claim, you are in for a lot of hassle. If you have a complaint (like we did) you can never speak to anyone, and if in Dubai, they will say you need to speak to Abu Dhabi main branch, and Abu Dhabi says "no you need to deal with Dubai." It was a farce. We did have a DHS. 30,000 claim one year, which they did pay after MUCH hassle, but the following year they raised our premium over 100% I spoke with someone on the phone about this, and they said, 'Don't worry, it will go back down next year if your claims go down." Fast forward one year after 0 claims....you guessed it, it went up another DHS. 1,000. We have since switched our cover.

All schools, and many business too, have certain jobs that are designed to be filled by people who are already sponsored by their spouse. TA's would certainly fit in that category. Many schools even have full time, qualified and certified teachers that do not receive these benefits, because they are already receiving them from their spouse, and legally you can not receive these benefits twice. So yes, in short, very normal and very common. edited by gardenlover on 31/01/2014

mosques are part of Dubai and always will be. Good point. We live in close proximity to a mosque, (well...many) and love the sounds. Even after 20 years in Dubai, it reminds us we are living somewhere different, which we love. However, if you did live too close to one of them, it could be a little off-putting, even for a Muslim...I would think.
