hello and good afternoon i would like to ask a question please as I'm looking for advice, no one seems to know when you ring lawyers, I'm getting a little frustrated and seem to be going around in circle does anyone have first hand experience of this scenario as a british christian is it better to divorce in my home country UK or uae? (we are both british and christian) if in uae are the assets split, do you get spousal maintenance? or is it better to do the divorce in the uk. will the courts in uk be able to enforce financial orders from the uk to the uae, basically can they force him to pay me in the uk? I've lived in the uk since 2016, he still lives in uae runs own business. married 43 years and no dependant children. we lived together in uae for 15 years. do you also know if they tell him that he is going to be served with a divorce petition before they actually serve him - hopefully he will be served in the uk when he's here soon on business. many thanks for any help. its much appreciated in advance x I have a family member that has just been through the same thing.. British Christian getting divorced. Her and her now ex-husband opted to divorce via the Dubai Courts, which was an easy enough process after they had a legal agreement drawn up by a lawyer here. The UAE is very family orientated, and gives tremendous support for women here - so you may find the divorce agreement favours you tremendously more than what it might do in the UK. However, they have children, and so the agreement states a legally binding monthly payment be paid to her in the UK (she's moving back) - she also receives a sum for her, however this doesn't continue if she is in a relationship with someone longer than 6 months. You will get a cut of that business of his however, so make sure you don't lose out in that instance. If you can both come to a civilised agreement to visit a lawyer in the UAE, you may be surprised that it's a lot easier -- my family member was divorced within 3 weeks. thank you for your responses, he won't be fair, civilised or nice about any of it. and now I'm in the uk, lawyers there in uae want a minimum of 5000 aed to even answer 1 question i emailed them. its certainly difficult to know what to do. thanks again

Thanks for that very sound advice. I will get a second opinion for sure, re coming off it over time. I did read that this take medication takes up to 2-3 weeks to start working , so it will be interesting to see what my Bp results are today, now I've had three days of medication for bronchitis and complete bed rest. Thank you again.its been a scary wake up call edited by fairwater on 24/02/2015

I don't live in JLT but I work there (Cluster Y). Since they completed the junction next to the new park in the middle of JLT I have had no issues with traffic. The only thing it is one-way so if you miss your turning it's a long way round to get back to it! Thanks Alison

i have googled this and the only article about divorce in Ramadan is a newspaper article from Saudi.... which is banning divoces in Ramadan in Qatif - this would suggest that it is allowed... if that makes sense. http://www.themuslimtimes.org/2011/07/religion/islam/no-divorces-during-ramadan-in-qatif Yes that's all I could find as well that's why I asked on here. Thanks.

Your husband has to cancel your visa first. Ok thanks Belinda. He comes along with me to cancel visa. Then I have to apply for my own working visa. Will that affect my residency here in the interim. Thank you.

you will have to go to dubai courts - personal affairs department , divorce section and open a file to begin divorce proceedings. it is much easier if he has given her the talaqs and she had accepted it - thats the route that i took with my ex husband. Hi there thanks for that info. Where is the court is it in garhoud? Thank you so much.

this is for private individual, not a company. medical operation was botched - caused a severe problem that can only be repaired now overseas. hospital are denying and lying. but problem can only be caused by the surgery that was performed. they are denying treatments and number of surgeries that were performed. smacks of trying to cover their mistakes. so am trying to see how to go forward with this if we get nowwhere with hospital.

hi all, i need a bit of clarification as call centre has given me 4 different answers. if a medical insurance policy states on the letter of acceptance that under important points on pre exisiting conditons - they do not cover undeclaired pre existing conditons - pre existing - all eligible, directly or indirectly, related condition that existed or for which there were symptoms before the inception of the policy does this point mean that if you submitted an application for insurance on say last thursday morning and in the evening of the same day or the day after you were rushed into hospital as an emergency - can you claim or not - or is this considered pre existing. thanks for any clarification. ps forgot to say claim was submitted but not actually paid for as we had to wait for underwriters to come back to us - if that helps. so if we pay after admission to hospital after emergency treatment can we still claim. thanks for any help - much appreciated. edited by fairwater on 19/11/2013

Morning! I cant see any reason why it would be banned. If you have a whole case full they might suspect you are importing to sell maybe, but a few scattered amongst clothes would cause any concern (obv only my opinion!) I usually have half a dozen or so bottles of 'spray light' in my case when I return as its expensive and a bit hit/miss in shops. thanks coffee_mate.

we moved to rak a couple of months ago after living in dubai for nearly 10 years. dont get me wrong we love dubai but rak is just so peaceful to live in. ( of course everywhere has its ups and downs and we dont have to consider schools either which might be an issue for some possibly) we live in al hamra and its a lovely environment. we are fortunate to have a townhouse with a roof terrace and we can look out over the lagoon/sea from the front and at the back the golf course. we didnt make the move to relocate lightly-it was a decision that took us 2 years to make. ( we first bought an apt to use occasionally then came for more and more weekends and weekdays/holidays ) until we decided to live here permanantly at the beginning of the year. its a decision we are so glad to have made and the best is that we get to go dubai anytime we want to as its only one hour exactly from al hamra to garhoud/dubai airport on good and empty roads. the facilities arent what you get in dubai ( by that i mean things like clothes make up house hold things from places like zara home sort of shopping - although there are soon to be 2 choithrams, plus we have a big lulu, 2 carrefours and spinneys in a few places. soon to be 2 movie houses as well, rak also has a big fitness first too.) al hamra/rak has coffee mornings for mums and others - i think a few are organised by mums with kids for mums and kids as well others for the rest of us who want to make friends. we are all a friendly bunch i like to think. also they are a good way to find out whats going on. so all in all you can make friends if you make an effort to go along and join in things. we have tennis/yoga/keep fit/zumba/belly dance/tango - all sorts of personal training, etc etc the list goes on, theres someone somewhere here in rak who does something or knows of someone who does what you are looking for ( in the main). the beaches are lovely as are the community pools. we love it here and i can see us being very happy. i wish you well. edited by fairwater on 22/05/2013

I am so privileged to live in Oman. Arrived Dubai 1976 and what a gem of a place. Now hideous in every respect. Dubai, like many other big cities in the world has ups and downs, but I wouldn"t consider it hideous. Is too harsh, in my opinion. But, hey,who am I to judge,I love Dubai.... edited by simoralu44 on 18/05/2013 ditto this simoralu44

Sorry FW, not aware of the exact rules but would ask for some kind of ID if this guy is trying to throw you or your Daughters' guests out. Could understand if it was busy but seems ridiculous when it's so quiet. theres rarely anyone using the gyms or pools in the day so it did seem rediculous, hes questioning my DIL and son each time they go in there and they live there and use gym almost daily - and its in a rude manner and then he was really rude to DIL friend who also owns apts in the RB. as if they were trying to use facilities from outside - they havent gone together before. its upsetting my DIL as shes quite shy and quiet and it always seems to be worse or ruder when my son is away on business. i been through the house rules for al hamra but nothing about pools or gyms, only general stuff like speed and decoration, noise, etc. i am trying to find official line from al hamra but not heard back as yet. but next time they go i will go over with them and speak to him as i also have apt. in rb. there is a way to speak to people and rudeness to owners is not acceptable. thanks for your input.

Not sure, but is there anyone there to stop you? We have an apartment there that we rent out. I was up yesterday and there wasn't a soul at the pool, so I would hope "the more, the merrier'. (as long as you were all on your best behaviour, of course!) little man in rb 4 gym rude and arrogant, supposed to be a personal trainer ( he doesnt look like hes properly qualified so i have been told ) apparently bossing people about. not sure if hes employed by al hamra but next time my daughter I L and son go there i will go with, theyve just moved in there and were shocked at how rude he was and not sure of the rules of the apartments gyms and pools so didnt respond, when my daughter went in with one of her friends and was interrogated. who also owns apt in rb. so hence trying to find out the rules etc.

i might be stretching it a bit asking but does anyone know if only royal breeze residents can use the gyms there. can you take a friend from outside royal breeze but from the al hamra village or even rak itself. how many friends can you take. if allowed. can u only use the one in your own block or any of the gyms. same questions for pools. the online al hamra house rules make no mention of pools or gyms. thanks.

Does Hubby's company have a PRO!!! If so they will be able to help. As for changing emirate, I know there is right ups about Resident issues with AD/Dubai, don't know all the details, but If you have a AD residence you have to live in AD. Im sure someone will be along soon who has more knowledge. This is assuming you are referring to AD. hi thanks for replying, no both are cabin crew dubai the wifes resigned and they are going to live in rak so she needs to transfer to his visa, they dont provide pro's. at the moment they keep getting shuttled from here to there. really want to know what they need to do and where to do it. for example i looked on line and cant find where to go for the medical for instance. need a walk through for it, wheres medical place, how many photos in total, do they need house contract from house they are in now and new one they are going to in rak, that sort of thing, and costs. thank you. thanks. edited by fairwater on 09/05/2013 edited by fairwater on 09/05/2013

there have been some nice coffee mornings every second thursday at cafe nero al hamra mall - next one is i think 17th jan, 10.30am, check out al hamra village, rak - on facebook, events are usually posted on there. also check out on face book, visit ras al khaimah ( for events and whats on etc) also google groups rak. on another note, rak is a wonderful environment to live in, especially al hamra ( cant say about mina as i havent been there as yet ) - yes its quiet but you can always go to dubai for a bit of razzle dazzle, its only an hours drive, so you have the best of both worlds.
