Hi

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me. I take 50mg of Zoloft per day and have done for the last 7 years. Last time i filled my prescription I had to call 15 pharmacies as nobody had it in stock, now it is almost time refill again and NOBODY has any in stock. Going off it cold turkey has REALLY severe consequences for me and I am so worried. I was hoping that someone might have some that is unused or if someone knows of a nearby country that will be able to prescribe and supply me with it. I'm a prepared to fly somewhere this week if I need to (close as I work full time).

TIA

Hi Dinky, I am the founder of Out of the Blues. Sadly Zoloft isn't the only antidepressant that has been repeatedly out of stock and like you I have ladies in very difficult situations trying desperately to manage. It's great news it should be back in a few days I was also told the end of this week early next week so lets hope it's true this time! Take care of yourself Andy

Thank you everyone for your input! It has been really helpful. I called Pfizer today and they informed me that there has been a delayed shipment and that it has now arrived in the UAE (going through paperwork) and should be in pharmacies within three days. I really hope this is true! If there is a shortage with the medication you are taking I would suggest calling the manufacturers local officer. I was surprised at how quickly they responded and how much information they were able to give me. I hope everyone else who has been experiencing the same issues with other medications finds a solution shortly. It's quite ridiculous that medications that they know people MUST take suddenly disappear from the shelves. I will definitely be stocking up next time I travel somewhere. Thanks again! edited by dinky29 on 27/04/2014

have you tried with the other names it trades under or the generic brand. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sertraline

I just returned from a chain pharmacy and they said it has been over 3 months since Zoloft was shipped here. I asked when they expect it and the pharmacist said he did not even know if it was coming back as 3 months is long. He suggested asking the Dr for alternatives. Sorry this is happening to you

Azdhu, I googled to see if I could find the article I had read/heard about a few weeks ago, so I could link it for the OP, I couldn't find the recent one, however, there were lots of other reports going back a few years, so prescription meds going out of stock here seems to be an annual occurrence. On a side note, Calpol cannot be found here anymore either. Thanks for the info

I am taking it as an opportunity to see if I can go without the back pain medication for a while - I know it is not good for me and not a long term solution. I am exercising madly in the hope that strengthening my back with compensate the lack of meds. Maybe it will be a blessing in disguise for you Azdhu. edited by mrsb. on 27/04/2014

It's not a new thing (in fact would have said it is happening less often, at least with the medication I have to take), nor is it restricted to certain types of medicine. It is very frustrating, obviously, and difficult to see a way round.

I think there is a general lack of supply of HRTs, anti depressants and other strictly prescription meds etc. - maybe they are waiting for a shipment. The medication I take is out of stock UAE wide too. I am now 1 week without it. I have seen this happen on the supermarket shelves over the years - out of stock of certain items for weeks waiting for a container to arrive. But, I have never seen this with medications before. It is a big worry with the anti depressants as they are so addictive and you need to wean yourself off them. Let's hope the container arrives soon.

This is a longshot but worth a try. Over a month ago there was the same issue with Prozac. It suddenly became out of stock and patients did not have the time to even wease the dosage. The pharmacy in the Spinneys Umm Sequim shopping center was the only place carrying the generic form that the Doctors office was able to locate. I of course realize Zoloft is different but try calling that pharmacy as they just may have Zoloft. If you can also take e advice of Sam7 and head to Sri Lanka or Thailand and get it-BUT- make sure you have an official prescription written by the Dr noting also the generic names Good luck

Gosh, so sorry about that ! what a stress. I did hear on the news a week or so ago, that a lot of medications were out of stock in the UAE and Dr.s were worried about patients health being put at risk. I wonder what the problem is?

Thank you everyone for your responses! Unfortunately I am unable to tolerate other similar medications (tried about 12 different types) and I have called all the hospital pharmacies and they also have none in stock. It's so frustrating, and the pharmacies tell me that it has literally been three months since they have been able to order new stock.

I would suggest going to your doctor and asking them to prescribe a similar medication as a replacement, that is more readily available. When I took Zoloft years ago, had the same issues, sometimes available, sometimes not - so got an alternative.

Have you tried a hospital pharmacy ? I take a regular medication and found myself in the same situation as you, all the pharmacies were telling me it was out of stock and didn't know when it would be in stock again. Finally one pharmacist explained that they were not allowed distribute it anymore, and it could only be purchased from a hospital Pharmacy, sure enough, Saudi German had it in stock and so did City hospital pharmacy.

Certainly don't know for sure re: Zoloft, but some meds that are restricted here are available in Sri Lanka, which is not too far away ...
