It's a long shot but has anyone got married in the South of France? Just got engaged and want to do it there in a country chateau sort of thing, any advice much appreciated...

Thanks

It's not exactly South, more Bordeaux area, but if I was getting married again I'd love to get married at Chateau Rigaud. So beautiful and looks like they do amazing weddings. FFx

Friends of ours had a ceremony at Chateau Lagorce near Bordeaux - it was absolutely beautiful shabby chic chateau with lovely rooms and gorgeous wisteria growing up along the walls. Would highly recommend it. More St Tropez way but you could try Villa Ephrussi which was owned by the Rothchilds which is also stunning. There are obviously some amazing hotels in St Tropez way like Chèvre D'Or or Eden Roc but they are very very expensive!

We had our wedding blessing the South of France last year. As previous posts, you have to live in France for 40 days to ACTUALLY get married there, so we did UK registry office and then had our blessing in a beautiful Chateau in a small village called Ginestas. edited by monkeymoomin on 07/07/2014

Yes that's true! We are going to do the paperwork and actual marriage here then go over there for the ceremony with all the family, thanks a lot for confirming though :)

Thanks Sorry this isn't very helpful, but a friend of mine (irish) tried to do this a few years ago and was told she or her OH had to spend a certain amount of days in France per year to be allowed to marry there, she was a teacher and initially considering spending all her hols over there, but in the end got married in croatia as it was easier. I just looked that DOF website and it doesn't mention this, so not sure if its still the case. Probably best to check with the embassy they might be able to help with the legal side. Good luck and congrats!
