I have been to see Dr Annett for a breast lump and I highly recommend her. She's a good Dr and the Breast Clinic there is excellent which is why appointments are hard to get these days. Unless you are really worried I would wait to see her. I know she does attend overseas conferences every now and then.

Well we had our party and the girls all had fun. We had it at the Mercarto Store and they tell me it's increasing in size soon. 13 girls was a little bit crowded but they played games and tried the stuff, made things and enjoyed themselves. It's a little expensive but you don't need party favours as you can buy this in the pkg and the birthday girl gets a lovely present too. Took cake and had it in the food court and all was fine. Can't say enough about the staff who did a fantastic job. I would recommend it for sure.

I second Total Elliptic at the Gloria Yassat Hotel in Tecom. I hate gyms and this is not a gym but a fun place to exercise with music where you have people of all shapes and sizes.

Has anyone hosted a party at the store "Lush"? Just wondering what you thought and was it worth it? It would be for my daughter's 11th birthday. My daughter is having one for her 13th tomorrow afternoon will let you know how it goes. She only wanted Lush nothing else.

We are from Melbourne. My daughter is a 2004 baby but July. She is in yr 6 here, a year younger than most of her class but coping fine. She is a year ahead of her cousin in Australia the same age. If we went home all my children would go back a year and I would prefer it that way. It would not hurt them and even if they know more than their peers from being a year ahead here it can only be a confidence booster especially when moving countries. I would assume yours would into yr 5 as per Appletiser but yes best to check with the school in question. Good luck!

We have had a maid the whole time for the pads 7 years. Our current maid is finishing with us in March. We are not getting another one. I'm looking forward to my children doing more and like someone said the normality and privacy. Loved Chez Mois reply. Those with Maids we all really don't know how lucky we have it here!!! edited by Genkigirl on 06/02/2015

Anyone else have any idea on why a hotel (or any other business) won't accept credit card bookings by phone? Talk about making life difficult! A lot of places are doing that these days and yes it's inconvenient but it's for security reasons. If your credit card was stolen anyone can then call up over the phone and make a payment for anything just giving the security code on the back. I did it for a desert safari in AD recently but as added security I had to send copy of passport also to prove it was me. Inconvenient yes, but I'd rather this than false charges.

Dr Annette in the Breast Clinic at City Hospital. They are excellent. Have not had Dr Alex but heard she is great too. I tried to make an appointment to see Dr Houriya but the wait list was months and months long so gave up and went to City Hospital and could not be happier. They are all very efficient.

There is nothing wrong with drinking the tap water or using for cooking unless it looks a brown colour. Everyone here is so hung up on bottled water. I have been here for 6 1/2 years and always use it for cooking like cal-trax and even use it in the kettle ( no after taste for us).

Just be grateful you're moving to Singapore! I'm well jel! Don't take any cardies, cover-ups, outerwear etc 30/32 degrees all year round, humidity is awful but it's a real walking place, taxis are cheap as and all drivers must have a Sing passport and are way more helpful than here. Shopping is similar with Euro brands everywhere but lots more local options - don't worry about the packing you can buy/find all you need easier and cheaper than here - enjoy!! Definitly take a light cardigan as air-con inside malls, offices etc can at times be freezing. At first you will find it hilarious when you see people wearing turtle necks, but then realise they have just come from inside somewhere cold. Shopping is similar in stores here but more people everywhere, harder to get places at coffee shops etc these days. Prices are way more expensive then here by far, ( if you are a bigger size person you will have more choice here than there so stock up before you go) A lot of the local options are smaller asian sizes. Shoes are cheap though. You will still enjoy your time though.

I have a daughter in Yr8 at WIS ( a few years below yr 10) and we are very happy. If my daughter was at another school, very happy gaining good grades, settled, going to a school that is nurturing etc.. I don't think I would move her. Who is to say that your daughter wont do really well still at EC? WIS is excellent as are the facilities and I know many kids who did well in their last exams in yr 10 but only you can make that choice as you know your daughter. Its not always about the school and facilities. Is she happy to move?

I think thats rubbish. My eldest was 5 1/2 when we moved here and went into Year 1 at EIS Jumeirah ( only school we could get into at the time) she had only done 1 term of prep in Victoria. She coped fine. Come the new school year we wanted her to repeat just in case but the Principle Assessed her and she was fine so continued on. My 3 year old at the time has done 1 term of Kindergarten and went straight into KG1 at EIS and no problems either. Really keep trying the school it may be a good starting point and like us further down the track when we knew we were going to be here for longer changed schools. Try Star that was taken over by Horizon lots of Aussies there or Raffles

I don't believe Smashing Cleaning would have caused any damage to the ducts if they had come out without first inspecting ( no I don't work for the company). They definitely know how to clean properly and are not just gung-ho and deal with major air-con problems. I know as we have had a massive problem and they have helped us immensely. Everyone however finds a company that suits them.

My husband said to leave it but I was angry. The called to arrange a delivery for a certain day and yes a specified time frame. I knew I would be home then only day of the week kids have no after school activities. The day before when Im out my 7 year old daughter calls to tell me that Aramex had been and that as I was not home called my husband to see if it was ok to leave the new cc with my 7 year daughter who signed for it. Ridiculous. When I checked the packet it said delivery was meant to be for the next day as we had arranged. I called to complain and all they could do was apologise and say not sure why it came a day early. I was very peeved!

Sometimes I do braise the meat before hand but not all the time. Can make great currys ( fish and meat) and put it on the morning and it cooks all day. Highly recommend it!

Smashing Cleaning for us. We were in the same position and they deal with mold cases day in and day out so are experts. Just cleaning will not get rid of it as mentioned. Smashing can clean air-con vents and any furniture etc that have mould on it with a (non-toxic to you) chemical. We were very happy with what they did for us as most of it has not come back on the things they cleaned. You will however need to get to the bottom of why there is mould in the first place and this is the ultimate problem. I also use Oil of Cloves ( essential oil not cooking oil) diluted in a water spray bottle and wipe down anything with mold and this has helped. Im not sure where you can get this in Dubai though as I got mine from overseas in summer. I feel for you though as ours has been a major issue.

Try this - http://www.totalelliptic.com My life has changed since going here three times a week. This is not a gym, but an exercise class where the instructor Javier can also help you with nutrition and weight loss etc. A very motivating class that keeps you coming back and is an amazing all-over body work out. Doesn't hurt your back either which was a problem when I find I go to the gym. It's at the Gloria Yasat Hotel so parking easy and I can go after school drop off. I love it!

As far as I am aware this is the last part of the process. A copy of our notarisation stamp, last page of the will is sent to our Will company to be kept for their reference but apart from this its yours to retain.

yes in fact its 2000AED for attestation fee per person and a registration fee of 110 AED pp all in cash. Horrendous I know. Yes you need to take passport copies as well as originals and Emirates ID cards (just in case take a copy of ID cards as you never know.) We had one lady sign for both and stamp. I have a document on the process if you want me to send that to you please give your email address. Its a lot of help. edited by Genkigirl on 17/09/2014

No but had heard from other people that this had happened. I can only think that the hotels have all got greedy and been allowed to block off their beach sections and become private. Very wrong if that's the case. The beach used to be so nice there and fantastic the way you can walk all the way along to Zero Gravity. A sign if the times maybe?

yes This is the next step. We had our wills completed by Expatwills, you now need to take them with your 2100 dhms each and go to Al Barsha ( early in the morning I would advise ) and take a number show them what you want to have done then go from there. It did not take long, under an hour of waiting and stamping. make sure its all ready to go though and as its a government office remember to dress appropriately. I went wearing long sleeves but a dress just on my knees and we were turned away and I had to come back in pants the next day. Was not fair really when other women were there wearing no sleeves but thats beside the point. We did ours in June this year and now have that peace of mind that its all completed.

Try Geant Supermarket at Ibn Batutta, easy parking quieter on weekdays, big supermarket and it opens at 9am so very convenient instead of driving from the Marina all the way to Motor City or Umm Sequiem. You can be at Ibn Batutta in 10 minutes.

My daughter loved her early years in foundation. JAPS is a good school Ive heard too but it depends on what you want and where you live and like you said if you are here for the long term WIS has high school too and Im also happy with that as I have a child in Secondary there.

We have been very happy with Dubai Podiatry Centre and will be sad if its true Dr Emma has left. Never had any problem with their service and have now several friends attending there. Yes they are pricey but its like everywhere, specialist services are expensive. Comparing their prices to friends elsewhere as I looked around they are really not that different.

Singapore has had major outbreaks of Dengue on and off all year. Yes it's not nice to have ( my husband had it when young) but take precautions and I'm sure you will be fine. We will be there for two weeks and am not worried. The authorities do the best they can by fogging and checking houses with stagnant water from ponds and plants etc.. Mostly contracted in the suburbs where houses etc are. Go and enjoy!

I see Dr Anna and took a two month dose of Progesterone tablets a few months back due to not sleeping well and being low on Progesterone. (Specifically made for me). I like Dr Anna and think yes she is very thorough and I know other women who are very happy too. I was not sleeping well so tried the Progesterone. At first I could not tell if it was helping but looking back I think it helped me to sleep more deeply and I only really realised this during the 2nd dose. I think it might needed to be tired for a few months and not a short time.
