Hi Tanya. I'm guessing my reply might come a little late but we were in Riyadh for 2 years and our small compound was 90000 SAR for a big 3 bedroom apartment with a pool and gym in the compound. It...
Wuffles are you still in Jeddah? I have a friend potentially moving there and wants some idea on cost of living? Best school for IB Diploma and compound living rent costs? Thanks :)

Thanks girls, feel a little more reassured. One things I'm not sure about is how do teens go about socialising? Obviously there is no public transport and people say don't drive late at night? I Dubai, they would get the train or Kareem taxi thing, where we currently live, we have a driver. When we go to Joburg, I'll then be the driver again. Any thoughts

Thanks CB and lilyuae, We are in a bit of a dilemma as husband will be working in Rosebank, but our son will go to AISJ (American International School of Joburg) He will be doing his IB Diploma (only school that offers it). So other ends of the earth. We are looking at Dainfern Golf estate, but it will be a 1hr commute for my husband. Yet safe for my son and I and better social life for him. There isn't a perfect option really. Dainfern sounds like the Truman show estate come Wisteria Lane (Desperate Housewives)

Hi, A few years ago we used Evelyn Seika and she was brilliant, she took a few years off but see that she is now at Kids First. (my boys were 11 and 15) Then we needed to have our boys reassessed for IB Diploma (they require updated tests when you start the IB) We used Ruba Tabari and she was also fantastic. Fortunately our insurance covers 80% of the fees which was brilliant. Ruba may be a little cheaper than kids first. Ruba' s contact : Educational Psychologist [email protected] mobile : +971505514316 Evelyn: Kids first http://www.kidsfirstmc.com/pediatric-professionals/psych-counseling/ I would recommend either with out hesitation.

Hi, we have just been advised we'll be relocating for my DH job, he'll be working in Rosebank and our children will most probably go to AISJ as they are currently in the IB system. We have been there as tourists but have no idea what it's like to live there. We know all the horror stories about crime, carjacking etc, people are already telling us we are crazy, but you go were the jobs are. Can anyone give advise on what areas we should be looking to live in? We don't know our budget yet, but wanted to start to have a look to get an idea. Any other recommendations about anything would be great. Thanks :)

Asking for a friend, she has been offered a position in Manila to head up a project, job is fantastic but she is 45, single, no kids. She's worried about meeting people and potentially being lonely, what social clubs are available, expat websites? If you have lived there any insights would be great.

Which Kings school? Kings Dubai in Umm Sequim is an excellent school as is JPS. Obviously JPS is much larger. My children went to JPS but I worked in both schools. It really depends on your child, but I loved that Kings was smaller and class sizes also slightly smaller (I've been gone 2 years so I assume it's still the same). The current principles in both are also excellent. If it's Kings Dubai where you have the offer I would lean towards that one. (just my opinion)

Just wanted to share the great accommodation we had in Tuscany. We stayed in a small Boutique accommodation near Pienza. Basicaly 20-40 mins to all the towns in Tuscany, stunning views and the most amazing breakfasts and best coffee we had in Italy. They only have 4 rooms but the Montepulcino suite easily fits a family of 4 as the sitting room coverted to a bedroom for our 2 boys aged 15 and 18. I found it difficult to find something old, yet renovated modern inside, but this was pefect. Worth a look if planning a trip. http://www.sienahouse.net

Hi, given the exchange rate you will probably find things cheaper in Melbourne. There are so many home stores and there is always a sale on. Ikea in Dubai is cheaper than in Melbourne from memory. To get an idea about white goods etc have a look at: http://www.thegoodguys.com.au www.jbhifi.com.au There are so many options for furniture: here are 2 example, but there are much cheaper stores too. http://www.domayneonline.com.au/furniture/ www.freedom.com.au Target.com.au Grocersies: www.Coles.com.au The options in Mebourne are endless.

When are you going? At the moment is the migration which is amazing to see. Both these operators in Tanzania are very good. http://www.wildthingsafaris.com and http://www.authentictanzania.com and well respected. It will be cheaper to go direct to them in Tanzania than booking through an agent here. Sopa and Serena lodges are quite good but there are also some gorgeous tented camps. Depends also on the time of year you are going. Also add Zanzibar. Park Hyatt in Stonetown is gorgeous and Essque Zalu in the north is on a stunning beach.

Thanks Plum2, on another thread you recommended Suzanne McLean, has she also moved. I'll try emailing Ruba. They don't need to be registered in Dubai, they just need to be qualified Edu psych as the report is for a school outside the country. My children are no longer at school in Dubai but I will be flying back through Dubai and wanted to have it done there as I know there are some good ones there. Unfortunately all the ones I knew are now missing in action!

Would you not drive Vegas to San Fran, you could do Death Valley and Kings Canyon http://m.huffpost.com/uk/entry/1547088 We drove San Fran to LA and stopped in Monterey which we really liked, Carmel is also a lovely stop. Aquarium at Monterey was nice. There is a good premium outlet mall outside Monterey too. In San Fran my kids loved hiring bikes and we rode across the golden gate to Sausalito and caught the ferry back.

Such a shame, I've had mine for over 10 years and still works perfectly. Maybe newer ones aren't made as well. If it's still under warranty they should replace it. Always push to see a manager or someone higher up as you don't often get anywhere with the sales staff. Kitchenaid appliances are great. Otherwise Philip and Breville are more economical options.

We went in April 2 years ago and the weather was great, warm but not like Dubai. We did Ho Chi Minh, then went to Mekong delta for 2 days 1 night which was lots of fun. We did a home stay but it was a very since house on the river. I like 4 -5 star and the house was lovely and meals were amazing. We cycled through the villages and did a river cruise on the Mekong. We then went to Danang and also stayed at the Hyatt Regency and did the shuttle into Hoi An. We were a family travelling and the children aged 15 and 11 loved it too. We booked our own flighta s we had miles and accommodation but had a tour company book all the transfers, day tours and Mekong trip. http://comeandgovietnam.com edited by TimTam on 19/02/2015

Fairy Dust you could try facebook for some answers. I'm in Dar es Salaam (previously Dubai) and people say there is more to offer in Nairobi than Dar. We have a great network through a facebook page for expats. I had a look and found one for Nairobi, might be worth joining to see if they can answer your questions. The one in Dar was fantastic for answering my questions. Good luck. https://www.facebook.com/groups/248312915261900/?fref=ts https://www.facebook.com/groups/510424975770719/?fref=ts

We have just gone through this. If your husband sponsors you, he must cancel your visa first, then cancel his. You can't let the visa's just lapse as you may have difficulty going back into Dubai, especially if it is within a 6 month period of the expiry. My husbands company did this for us and it only took about 1/2 hour to do but we weren't free zone, this may be different.

I received one a few years ago for speeding in Fujairah, which was very clever of me as I was at work in Dubai! I called and enquired about it and they said I needed to go to the police headquarters, where I could request the photo, then a few days later come back and collect the photo. OMG by the time I did that I would have been arrested for yelling at them in frustration so I thought it better that I just pay it. I was told that often they move fines across to expats as they know they can't be bothered contesting them.
